Alma Rubens was just lovely! Thanks for the pics northernsky :flower:
I wanted to give you karma, but I'm supposed to "spread it around". Oh, well.

it wooorked. :woot: (well, at least, the pictures are there, i wanted another order, but.. still. i'm a bit proud of my technical skills now. :D )

thank you, dosviolines. :flower: i agree, she looks adorable.

to be honest, i was never interested in seeing birth of a nation, but is there another film with her that you would recommend?

 I can't recommend any of Lillian Gish's movies, since I haven't seen any either! (And I didn't have any desire to see "Birth of a Nation" either.)
I've happened upon a few silent movies on TCM, but I can't remember any titles or stars. (While the 20's are a very close second, I'm more of a 30's lady^_^ ).
BUT I did get Greta  Garbo's DVD box set as an early Christmas present, and it includes a few of her silents. I've already watched "The Temptress" and can I just say :woot:    :crush: it was absolutely fantastic. Ah, the costumes, the scenes, it was just great (although the ending was sad)...Garbo just glowed.

aww, lucky you! i want to have my greta garbo-collection now, too. but it won't be out until the 14th of october. i'm going to rent it from amazon and as queen christina has been the first item on my list for weeks, i hope to get it immediately.
"the temptress" - how adequate. ah, but it's good to hear that her early films are also worth seeing. now i'm longing for those, too. :p (unfortunately they are not included in the upcoming collection, 'only' her six major films. d'oh.)

a neighbour is going to take me to the video store tonight. and she said she'd like to see "some old movie", too.

:bounce:

you're welcome. ohh, i wish i could see it with a live orchestra. i liked the music that the stream from archive.org had, but nothing beats a live orchestra. :woot:

i especially love the architecture in this film. count orlok's home, with the aslope (that's not the right word, is it? i mean kind of diagonal.) almost sacral light.. whoa.
