1940's Novelty "Love Birds" Print Silk Cocktail Dress with Side Swag
No labels found. Late 40's to early 50's. Silk crepe dress has novelty print of doves (looks like "love-y doves") surrounded by lots and lots of pretty flowers, water, and foliage in bright colors. This larger sized dress is styled with slightly fitted waist, bracelet length sleeves with pin-tucked seams at ends, and gorgeous side pleating and swag. The fabric falls straight and smooth, except for the side swag which gives the dress it's glamour. There is a decorative seam at back waist, and the seam has a little shirring. The dress fastens with back metal zipper and is in excellent to mint condition, no flaws found and very little wear. Silk is soft and supple, colors are bright and vivid, seams are tight.

1940's Elizabeth Arden Silk Crepe Gown with Appliqués' and Floating Panels
"Elizabeth Arden Elegance' New York" and "Frederick Nielson" labels. Both Antonio del Castillo and Charles James designed for Elizabeth Arden Salon during the 1940's. This dress is from the mid to late 40's. This incredible, rare late 40's gown is made of ink black silk crepe made extraordinary by use of bias cut, off-center placed floating panels with weights. The left panel starts at side seam and attaches at center back at waist with snap, the right panel starts at center front waist and attaches just over the side seam, with a snap. The dress is superbly constructed and has a whimsical dragonfly print in pink, with neckline finished in lots of dragonfly appliqués'. The dress has a faux shirt waist front, with dragonfly appliqués' where the buttons would be, elbow length sleeves and side metal zipper. The bodice is lined in silk, the skirt is not lined. I am sure the dress was designed with the express purpose for dancing, to show off the floating panels.

1940's Plume Print Rayon Crepe Dress with Double-Peplum
Professionally made. This is an exceptionally nice 40's rayon dress, the fabric is a nice medium weight rayon silk crepe, the print is gorgeous - large plumes. The dress has some very nice dressmaker details, too. The color is black and the plumes are done in apricot gold, white, dark green and black. The dress is fitted, and has a decoratively pleated cowl style draped collar. The sleeves are slit up the top, overlap, and are pleated at the top. The sleeves are also open at the underarm. This detail may sound funny, but the sleeve tailoring gives the dress a luxurious and expensive look. There is a long asymmetrical two-layer peplum that goes front to back. The dress fastens in back with a hook at neck where there is a small slit opening, and a side metal zipper. The peplum fastens over the zipper placket with snaps.
