Antique Wool Paisley Shawl Coat
This antique wool paisley shawl coat dates from the 1920s. It is made of a fine wool paisley fabric done in natural dyes of brown, red, green, blue, black and white. This custom handmade tailored coat was made from an antique Victorian era paisley shawl. These shawls were hand loomed and made in Kashmir, Persia, India, Russia, USA and Europe. Many were made in Paisley, Scotland which was at one time famous for its weaving and thread industries. This loose fitting box style coat has a fold over collar lapel, long full sleeves, and snaps for closure down the front. The paisley has been beautifully pieced together to create this exquisite coat with the decorative border edging the front opening. The coat is fully lined in a light golden brown silk satin fabric. It has a fabulous style and wonderful workmanship. The coat measures 29 inches long, with 44 inch hips, waist, bust, a 14 inch back and 22 inch long sleeves. This very unique fashionable coat is in good wearable condition with only a small bit of fraying on one shoulder and a small frayed hole on the bottom front hem. See bottom photo for close-up. All of which is difficult to see. It is a wonderful piece of one of kind wearable art.

Henri Bendel beaded Deco evening coat, c.1925

The coat is fashioned from substantial weight ecru silk faille and is lined with the same. The tone-on-tone beading design is richly textured with large iridescent round beads, faux pearls, opaque white glass beads, and silver-lined crystal beads.

The simple straight silhouette is augmented only by a dramatic cape-like panel at the back. The minimalist collar is rolled and softly gathered in back.

Henri Bendel opened his store in New York City in 1896 and dressed society's luminaries, including the Astors and the Vanderbilts. He was the first to bring over Chanel's designs, and he staged the first fashion show in New York City. The store remains to this day at the cutting edge of high style fashion.

Mink trimmed metallic lace dress, c.1923

In the early 1920s before the harder edged, flapper-Deco look took over, dresses retained elements of luxe Edwardian design. This exemplar of early Twenties design features mink trim, lavish use of metallic lace, and an earthy terra cotta hue.

The silk chiffon slip (terra cotta) is attached at the drop waist to a matching outer bodice layer of bronzed metallic lace. The outer skirt layer has alternating panels of metallic lace and silk chiffon.

The drop waist and chiffon panels of the skirt are trimmed with brown mink. At the hipline is a bouquet of metallic flowers and stuffed silk berries. The dress slips over the head with no closures.

Lewis/Philadelphia beaded velvet dress, c.1923

The unlined dress is fashioned from black silk velvet. The dress has an inner petersham as well as a wrap-style skirt that closes on one side with snaps. The black beads appear almost iridescent, depending on the light, due to the faceted shapes.

The beading pattern artfully combines a variety of shapes and sizes in a highly textured design. The faceted black glass beads have the smooth rounded edges that can be found only in an antique.

Ivory Knit and Black Soutache Jacket
C 1920s This is a fabulous ivory silk knit jacket covered in a black soutache cording. Small shawl collar and abbreviated kimono sleeves. From DHBrigham and Co. Springfield MA. Couple of faint spots.

This Edward Steichen photograph, which appeared in the April 1, 1925, Vogue, is a charming reminder of the pre–flip-flop era. Footwear is the focus. On the left, white T-strap pumps with contrasting dark trim; on the right, sturdy crocheted heels. A gentleman friend adjusts the radio's knobs as this leisurely crew prepares for some civilized beach time. The haphazard, off-center nature of this shot lends it a certain fascination, as one can't help but imagine the rest of this scene.

Pink Silk Dress
C 1920s Pink Silk Jacquard harlequin print dress with little lace collar. Running beneath collar is matching pink silk necktie sash. The V neckline is closed with a loop over double buttons at center front throat. Six additional buttons are used to accent the front of the dress below the V. The sleeves were cut in one with the front and back panels of the bodice. The skirt attaches to the front bodice at the drop waist seam line that dips in a downward point at center front. A matching silk self belt encircles the drop waist and passes thru to welt slits at the front of the dress and ties at the center. One tiny rust spot top right near arm and shoulder and very faint underarm discoloration.

Embroidered Green Cotton Tunic
C 1920s This is a green cotton lawn embroidered at home tunic or combing robe. Might even be part of a peignoir. The embroidered leaves on the front of the garment are outlined in embroidery floss some of the outlining is missing and you can see where she drew some of the outlining of her pattern. All the outside edges are bordered with white machine lace. Silk ribbons tie the sides and matching ribbon is used as accenting on the shoulders. A couple of pinholes.

Cotton Floral Dress
C 1920s This little cotton floral day dress is in pink celery green baby blue and dark blue. It is from the late 20s maybe 28 or 29 maybe even 1930. This is evidenced by the rising waist line. The bodice is a very deep V with a wide ruffled lapel bordering the V that extends all the way to the waist line. I think it would be nice to tack the top end of the lappet to the shoulder seam to keep ruffled lapel up right and extended. The skirt is made up of six gores and has two inverted pleats center front in the lower portion of the skirt.
