1960s : Fashions of a Tradition-Changing Decade

c. 1960's RUTH VARLAN 2-piece Summer Cotton Gown!
Pink square neck cotton sleeveless blouse with "Indian" designed "v" trim gets tucked into a long cotton horizontal design skirt with matching waistband. Wear separately or together! Looks like a one-piece dress as you can see. Measures: up to 36-38" bust, up to 29" waist (but can move hooks to up to 31" waist), 42" long skirt. Top has a metal zipper at back. Silk lined. Nice weight to the pieces! Well made.

c. 1960's LILLY PULITZER "The Lilly" Classic Shift Dress in Cotton/Poly Blend Pink Green Blue Dress with White Lace Trim!
Ah, the classic Lilly dress. Measures: up to 40" bust, up to 36" waist, up to 44" hips, 43" long from shoulder to hem (was lengthened, so you should shorten up 2.5" as the old hemline has faded the fabric). Plastic zipper at back.

c. 1960's Pale Periwinkle and Spring Green Cotton Gown with Ribbon and Lace! Very Lilly Pulitzer!
Interesting and tranquil bamboo print cotton with white birds and green leaves... the white bamboo stalks are echoed in the white lace trim. Green grosgrain ribbon trims lace. Back metal zipper. Measures: up to 38" bust, up to 33" waist, up to 39" hips (so you want a cute little butt and thin hips!), 56" long from shoulder to hem. Has a slit at side/front to show a little leg.

c. 1960's Jo Robinson Inc., Wilmington Blue Metallic Gown!
I decided to put most of the Dupont gowns on my larger dressform so you can see how they are supposed to look! Love this one! Cornflower blue raw silk bodice with modified boat neck edged in the same amazing blue metallic material as the skirt and matching belt/bow. The blue and gold metallic skirt has red, yellow and turquoise dots.. and the metallic material just lets the light "dance" on it! Lovely!. Measures: 39" bust, 33" waist, 41" long from waist to hem. Metal zipper back.

c. 1960's Bright Green Raw Silk Blouse with Matching Long Skirt and Cummerbund with Appliqué Flower Pots!
Ok.. doesn't get much "cuter" for all you Southerners at heart! Three pieces... a blouse (long enough to tuck in), a cummerbund and the long potted skirt! Back zipper on blouse.

c. 1960's RUTH VARLAN Special Koala Print Top Pink and Bright Green Cotton Weave Gown!
Cotton print top of this gown.. you have to look closely at the print to see what it is! Took me a few double-takes! Yes, my friends... not ladybugs or flowers... it's a koala bear print!!! Great gown if you are planning a trip "down-under"! I would like to see it with a belt, but none came with it, so a pink ribbon will do! The skirt is a solid bright green cotton weave.

c. 1960's COUNTESS ALEXANDER, New York / Jo Robinson Inc., Wilmington Floral Silk Chiffon Gown!
Lovely, well-made gown! Hard to photograph the details as it's floral chiffon fabric over the same floral silk fabric! But in person this gives a very expensive look. The sleeves and the upper bodice are the same floral see-through chiffon as the upper layer skirt. Tiny, short standup collar. Great heavy hemline detail. Excellent condition... looks like it was never worn! 7/8 length sleeves with cuffs (great to show off your pearl bracelet). Back zipper.

c. 1960's Large Floral Print Satin Silk Gown!
I call this my Dupont Hawaiian gown... slightly more tropical looking than many of her gowns. Love the deep blue/lavender color background with bold pinks, lavender, aqua and white flowers. Simple sheathe shape but with a "way-cute" kick pleating at lower back of skirt!

c. 1960's MOLLIE PARNIS Silk Satin on Nylon? Sheer Dress Yellow and Light Blue!
Very interesting and unique fabric. I've had one other dress like this, but I couldn't describe that fabric any better than I will attempt to do here. It's a semi-sheer nylon (?) woven with silk satin pattern. I know... you have no idea what I'm trying to describe. Sorry! It's fabulous... how's that??? Rarely seen color combo. Matching fabric belt with bow front. Cuffed sleeves. Tiny, short standup collar. This is one great feeling fabric! Yellow silk lining.

c. 1960's Printed Chiffon with Gold "Chains" Gown!
Here's a unique fabric! Hard to even describe. Tribal psychedelic? The printed chiffon part is easy, but then there are flat gold "chains" in the material. They don't look like embroidery, and they aren't heavy at all.. so what the heck are they?? Just look at the close-up photos to see. I'll let you tell me! Fun gown with a 4-layer skirt which opens at the front to appear like an overskirt billowing in the breeze.. but it's all attached, and only at the front to sides. The bodice has decorative frogs down front. Back metal zipper. Lined in hot pink silk.
