1960's Malcolm Starr Printed Silk Chiffon Dress with Plunging Back
"Malcolm Starr" label. I consider this a rare Starr design, this is the only printed silk chiffon Malcolm Starr dress I have seen and it is from the early 1960's, which is also rare. The print is reminiscent of Pucci or Bessi of that era. This is an abstract print swirly modern design on silk chiffon over matching silk crepe. The neckline in front is high and decorated with pleated chiffon, like a scarf. The chiffon extends down alongside the plunging back line. The bodice is fitted, gusseted sleeves, very very full skirt with shirring and hand finished hem. Yards of chiffon on this skirt! The waist is finished with self piping, and a double-bow in back at center waist. The dress fastens with back metal zipper and hooks.

"Anne Fogarty" label. This is really a lovely, feminine dress with a bohemian flair. Cotton voile fabric with multi-colored bright batik style print. Dress has scoop neckline and full length sleeves with ruffles at ends. The dress has an empire waist with a wide band of smocking, and there is smocking to match at each sleeve. The skirt is fairly full and about ankle length.

"The Way to Look, by Nathan Strong" label. Late 50's-early 60's. Metal gray matte silk satin cocktail dress. Styled with fitted bodice, waist and sleeves with flared a-line skirt with shirring around the waist. The waist is finished with a band of self fabric with a center bow. The neckline and sleeves are decorated with tiny rhinestones and varied sizes of metal gray fresh water pearl like beads. The sleeves have openings that fasten with hidden tiny snaps. "Sara Fredericks" label. Absolutely gorgeous and perfect for a special spring/summer occasion such as a wedding, anniversary, vacation etc... This gown is made of silk satin in a spring green/olive color with bright flocked velvet flowers in lavender, violet, white, yellow, coral and berry. The gown is fitted, is sleeveless and fastens with back metal zipper. The jacket is waist length, double breasted and fastens with self covered buttons into French bound button holes. This gown was expertly made with couture details such as hand-stitched in matching pink silk lining and cloth covered snaps.

Late 50's to early 60's. No labels found, couture details. Fine silk satin with velvet floral flocking and floral print. Strapless fitted dress with decorative belt style waist band with front bow. Skirt has flat front panel, and is smooth in back. Fully and expertly lined, bodice has two silk covered weights dangling from inside top of bodice lining (to ensure the top of the bodice lays properly against the body) and is also boned front and back for support. The colors are olive-brown background, with chartreuse, tangerine, yellow, cream and brown colors. Back metal zipper.

1960's Hanae Mori Op Art Print Dress
"Mori Hanae" label. Mori is considered the Queen of Couture in Japan. Mori opened her first clothing boutique in Tokyo in 1951. Soon after she began costume designing for film. In 1960, a fitting with Coco Chanel provided the inspiration that she must create Haute Couture. "East Meets West" was the theme for her first collection presented in New York in 1965. This collection was met with great enthusiasm by critics and the top department stores, and as a result Mori opened two boutiques in New York. In 1977 she opened a Haute Couture house in Paris and also a boutique. The same year she became member of the "Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture". This was a very rare privilege for someone not French born, and (at the time) for a woman. This mod little silk dress from the mid 60's is a rare find, almost unheard of to find a 60's Mori piece.. A chic little shift style dress with attached self belt. Done in tangerine and yellow in an op art dots print. Partially lined, fastens with side snaps and hooks.

"Anne Fogarty Boutique, 100% silk chiffon and 100% linen" hang tag and "Anne Fogarty" label. A really pretty resort style dress of linen and silk chiffon. The floral printed silk chiffon is over a fitted mustard colored linen sheath dress. The chiffon skirt is full and shirred around the waist, the bodice is fitted and sleeveless. The waist is finished with linen piping that ties in back in a bow. The dress zips up back with nylon zipper.

1960's Geoffrey Beene Chic Little Dress
"Geoffrey Beene Boutique" label. Beene studied design in Paris, and also New York where he worked for Samuel Winston, Harmay and Teal Traina. He started his own line in 1963, to huge success. Within a year he won the first of 3 Coty awards, and also the Neiman-Marcus fashion award. Here we have a design that combines the youthful baby-doll look with beautiful sophisticated tailoring and dramatic fabric. The fabric is probably a wool and silk blend and is in white and navy blue faille, with a wide navy center panel front and back, with solid navy borders on sleeves and ascot to match. The dress is fitted, with semi-full skirt. The neckline is actually a scarf or ascot that folds over and ties at side. The dress comes with original belt. Bodice is lined in navy cotton. Dress fastens with back nylon zipper.
