^ I really don't get it. It's kind of just becoming a joke at this point. At least for the womenswear designer (which is the one most people pay attention to).

unfortunately they could expand the nominees list but it still probably wouldn't make any difference in the end since there isn't a whole lot to choose from these days. even when NY was thriving with young and independent talent they still ignored so many for the same ol' names.

i know this is going to sound harsh but i think they should just retire these awards. people have grown tired of the same names every year…they don't carry the same impact they might have in the 90's. the only benefit it gets is perhaps the tabloid attention it gets through the celebs who attend…who btw only really show up for the appearance fees and maybe some schmoozing with designers to get free clothes.

The acessories nominations always kill me the most, I could seriously name 5 other designers making the exact same types of jewelry as Jennifer Meyer (and at better prices!). At least they finally ditched Pamela Love, her claim to fame (*cough* overhyped *cough*) claw bracelets are like 5 years old now.

We all know why Meyer gets the attention. I do love Marc Alary's stuff though, hope he wins.
