50 Book Challenge for 2011

It would be really nice if we could find a way to organize the reviews, maybe a pinned thread with ONLY the reviews so all the noise can get shut out? And keeping this thread for discussing how we're faring with the challenge? Or would that be completely pointless? :p

Anyhoo, can't wait to start :D

I am down. Must do.

There is an Apple app of free books. So, I guess I won't be buying a Nook or a Kindle or whatever else they're throwing at us to get us to read!

@MulletProof, 125 of 600 really doesn't count. It's not even a half. But even if you are on 350 p., this doesn't count. Only whole books. Otherwise where's the point of reading and making reviews?

What if we Read a Book more than the half through ( more than 100 pages, e.g. I Read 200 of 300 pages) but then it bores us and we don't Finish that Book? Do they Count?

That often Happens to me. I Read more than the half Book but stop then...

^ I think that's understandable. No one is guaranteed to like any book, honestly. My dad says giving it 100 pages is usually enough to know whether or not it's worth the read.

But then there are books (especially the thick classics like Anna Karenina, and then those by Gabriel García Marquez) where the first 100 or 200 pages are almost dedicated only to describe what the characters, atmosphere and even traditions looked like, it's like a (often tedious) warm-up instead of the actual story, and at least in AK, the real deal is in the end, it's when you are a bit .. and suddenly the torture of the first 100 pages make sense and you go to back read them [several times!] and understand why the author went into so much detail.

I guess I'm old-fashioned but even though there are many exceptions, the heart of a book is often right around the end imo.. there are books that I half-read, dropped for months and pushed myself to finish after a long time, and when I did, I felt silly for not finishing them before or at least make it further than page 15.

If you can't finish a book, I think if you want, you should still post a review and say why you can't get through it.
But it won't count for your list because it doesn't lead to as good a feeling of accomplishment as 50 completed books. :flower:

Too bad threads don't count cause I swear I read like 150 pages yesterday.

Really? I know I'd be incredibly disappointed if I had to finish a book but found I didn't like it at all. I think a review stating at least why you didn't like it would suffice. ^_^ I think that's fair. We wouldn't want anyone to undergo unnecessary torture.

i'm in as well=)

i only read 33 books in 2010, i guess i need to read a little faster from now on:lol:

Its so funny that I always try to at least read 50 books a year but this year I fell short. Then again I have been very sick and whatnot so...

Heres hoping for 2011 ie Count Me In! :flower:

Not sure how many I read on average, but I'd like to try! I imagine most of the reading will get done in the spring and summer...

I have started by first book -

01: American Subversive by David Goodwillie

Okay, starting with "Tarantula" by G. Matejev.
And happy new year everyone ;)

01: Vanity Fair - William Thackeray (collector's library)

Just finished the Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks. It´s a typical Sparks book. Easy to read. But I love his books. I own them all, but not the latest one. I love his books. But mayne people say they are boring haha.
Now reading: Owning Jacob by Simon Beckett.
