I have been saving up for a Chanel bag for some time now. They cost around 1,300 dollars. I currently have 500 saved. Do you think a bag that expensive is worth it? Should I look for a different kind? My friend (and my father) keep telling me to look for something cheaper, but I'm 14 and I have nothing else to buy but clothes....I'll be paying for neccessities for the rest of my life. What do you think....be honest!!!!

I would not spend $1,300 on a bag no matter what brand... but that's just me

I think you should look for something cheaper, more original, and youthful. IMHO, Chanel bags are for old ladies from Madison Ave. 14, damn, I'd go on vacation instead!!!

a chanel 2.55 is HOT! ;)
being 14 is quite young, but if you really want it and you re saving up for it, i'd say:
go for it!! :woot:

its a piece you'll carry for ever.
if you pick the black version of it B)

I love Chanel bags, but at 14, you'd look as if you are carrying your mom's bag. You have plenty of time later to buy a Chanel bag- you should buy something a little younger looking now.

:( What if I buy a different label (don't know what yet, I'm window shopping this weekend) but something durable.....Is that still too much money? I need help.....this is hard.

i completely agree. i personally LOVE the chanel 2.55 in black, and i'm saving up for it as well. i personally think it would look a little awkward at 14, but hey if you can pull it off, go for it. :flower:

Chances are that for the rest of your life, as well as paying for necessities you're going to be saving in some form or other, so I wouldn't want to be doing quite so much, quite this early. I think most people who spend that much cash on a bag do so very comfortably, but if it's taken you quite a while to date, and to a future date, to get all the funds together, its not that easy and it makes sense if you're 14. If I were you I'd spread the money and the love on whatever else tickles your fancy (bag, boys…) and save the Chanel for sometime down the line when you're earning, or earning more, and it isn’t such a sacrifice money wise. Besides, there would be little point in having one lovely bag and few lovely outfits to combine with it. :P

what labels are you looking at? i think maybe coach or dooney & bourke may be good choices, they're very nice, and durable, but yet cost considerably less than say chanel.

It seems as if you're not really set on Chanel, it sounds as if you just want to spend all of that hard earned cash on a more expensive bag.

If I were you, I'd totally use the money and buy clothing... and spend maybe half of that money on a bag if I really needed a new bag.

Instead of buying some big designer, I'd look around at all of the up and coming new indie designers..

PS... I'm so blown away that you're 14 and you saved 500 bucks. That's great! :) I never did that... lol

If you want a designer purse, I'd go for a Marc Jacobs bag. They're young looking but still a nice designer bag and they're great quality.

Dior, Fendi, umm....not Douney and Bourke, not Coach...every girl I know has those bags, and I hate having the same thing that someone else has. It just lowers your self esteem. I love to make bags, too...I want to be a designer. I just can't find handbag parts. THIS IS HARD!!!

i still say:
go for it :innocent:

clothes wont stay as much as this bag..
but then again, im not a clothes person as much i love bags and shoes..
or, save the money and keep it for a while until you know for sure what you want ;)

If you would like information on finding handbag hardware ... online, etc... I can def. help you out with that.

You can buy a lot of leather with 500 bucks and make a lot of bags.

I agree. I think you should wait until you are at least in your upper-teens before getting a Chanel. A Marc Jacobs Sofia, or even a Stella or Venetia, is young spirited, comes in fun colors, and is slightly less money. If you were willing to sacrafice size, the Cammie bag is just a scaled down version of his larger bags and goes for $495, so you could get it now.

I think if you really love it and you're dead sure about it then get it! :flower: but if you want to invest in bags then make sure you know your options

Personally, I woudln't blow all your savings on a handbag. Sure no one at your school will have the same bag but they also might get jealous and either try to steal it or ruin it. Once this kid who sat behind me in class ruined a new sweater of mine by drawing on it with a pen. I was so upset and it wasn't even that expensive. Imagine if something like that happened to your Chanel bag! If you do end up getting it I wouldn't carry it around school everyday. That would just be asking for trouble.

Oh yes I agree don't take your bag to school because I'm pretty sure something is gonna happen to it if you do

I'd go for a younger, cooler brand

Marc Jacobs or Luella

They have both of those in Bergdorf Goodman or Neiman Marcus

They are a bit more reasonable too - it means you won't have to save for much longer and can have the bag for the summer

Get a fun colour too x

Here a picture of Reese with her Luella 'Gisele' bag
