...The Abbesses is $900

So not worth it, imo.

I'd rather have a LV keepall! They're $700-850 and are so humongous.

I like this one too. I wonder if they have one in black... *logs on to Adidas website* :flower:

Yeah, I don't think I'll be carrying an LV to college. I would eirther: trash it, lost it, mess it up, tear it apart, allow it to get stolen, etc, etc You get the picture

I never thought I'd say this, but the Adidas one looks really nice...!

$240 for an Adidas bag??? What is this world coming to?

yeah- but you could use an abbeses every day, how often are you going to walk around with a huge duffle bag? I used to have the abbeses, have since sold it and gotten the Damier Bastille which is the same bag but in damier. For school, honestly, if you can afford it, it really is a good option.

Well, I personally carry around a LOT of stuff for school, so I am considering getting the duffle in the smallest size... it's practical for me at least!

I'd go for a LV Abesses. The bag is SOOO amazing! :w00t: I ordered it yesterday!
Unless you want to be the butt of all jokes around campus, I don't think an LV bag is exactly a very wise choice. She's attending a college, not the annual gathering of the fashion victims union.

A structured, thick messenger like the Absesses would also look particularly awkward on anyone with a petite figure. Actually it looks just plain awkward on ANYONE.

The Addidas bag is actually surprisingly nice - I'd get it if it wasn't that expensive. Since when did Addidas start charging $240 for a bag? It better be very well made and a far cry from the cheapo nylon duffles you'd usually associate with the brand.

For that money she'd be much better off with a classic Prada nylon messenger. V158, V165, V166 are all unisex styles that are versatile, practical, and chic.

Orochian is right. I just finished university myself and LV bags were frowned upon at my school. Maybe at a preppier university you can get away with it, but at most schools you might come accross as being pretentious for carrying a logoed bag that large. Unless you join a sorority you might scare of a lot of potential friends. University is the opposite of high school, you don't want to look like you've got money.

I'm quite disappointed with Adidas' rise in prices too. They went from being one of the cheaper sports companies to one of the most expensive. I'm still going to wear the stuff I have now but I doubt I'd by any more at these prices.

Y-3 it says I:

Yo!
That messenger bag is actually a very decent deal, especially after a $240 Adidas one!

Well, it's still not exactly a lightweight price for a student. I'd like it more if it didn't have the gigantic logo plastered on the front.

And I agree, banana, conspicuousness is very much frowned upon in a place that thrives on intellectual development. I went to a University where students with hugely expensive cars are a dime a dozen, but still there was an unspoken code of conduct when it comes to appropriate dressing.

In case you all needed to know, I am going to the University of Texas at Austin :ninja: :innocent: Hey, they've got great music and a fantastic business program and a so-so art program. Which works for me since I am going Parson's for my Master's anyway. I hope!

I think the Prada is so far the one I am most attracted to. Let's see what Ebay can do for me  I also so a Kenneth Cole recently but it was trimmed with leather which made it so heavy and so rigid... :yuk:

My bag hunting update so far. :flower:

omg you could totally pull off the LV abessess at UT. i'm an aggie and so many girls have those here. probably fake, actually i would say most of em fake but LV at UT, you could totally do it. Sorority girls are all over the place up there. that is unless you dont want to pull off the princess thing.

jack spade makes a nice leather one.

to me, don't take offense to this please, but you sound like your being blinded by brand names and logos. cuz when you strip off the little prada triangle and the kenneth cole patch there's nothing really amazing about the the shapes or designs of them. i think the gap ones that were out a couple a years ago had a better design to them than those pradas pictured.

i would look for something in leather, it'll last you longer and it ages elegantly. after a while the prada nylon will start to snag and look gross.

I'm sure she could. She could also show up wearing a fur coat to an environmental studies.

The question is, why'd she want to do that? To look like some airhead spoiled sorority girl whose biggest aspiration is to appear on the next production of Girls Gone Wild?

And even if she wants to, and it's entirely prerogative to do so, I'd go for something slightly better looking than the bulky, ugly Abesses.

Isn't it a little ironic for this to come from someone who'd recommend something like the Abesses? Take off the loud, obnoxious, cliched logo plastered EVERYWHERE on the bag, and you'd basically get an awkwardly-shaped bag in a drab shade, the likes of which you can find at Walmart for a minute fraction of its price.

Leather is actually notoriously hard to take care of, unless it's the intentionally aged variety. Just ask tott, he just bought a messenger in untreated nappa. White spots would form the very moment moisture hits the bag's surface. You wouldn't want to deal with that when you're lugging around 50lbs of books, rushing to your next lecture.

I've used 3 different Prada nylon bags for school, 2 messengers and 1 backpack, and all of them have kept their shape remarkably well, considering the heavy-duty nature of their usage. Tessuto, which is the lined, thicker type, is almost impossible to snag, whereas the more delicate Vela material is almost never used for large luggage-type bags.
