A Tribute to the 90s Supermodels

EDITORIAL: Vive Paris
MAGAZINE: Vogue Italia February 1992
MODEL: Christy Turlington
PHOTOGRAPHER: Steven Meisel

What I find interesting about that Teller shoot is that he's used all these models from the glamour days of the 70s-early 90s, but his aesthetic appears to be more about shedding the glamour in favor of harder lines and unadorned reality. It's quite startling.

I personally did not like that editorial when I first saw it. I still don't like it. I guess it's because I'm not a fan of Teller's work.

Amber, to me, was too girl-next-door-ish.
I always thought she was wrong for Versace ads. But apparently, Gianni and Donatella seemed to like her a lot.

Since we recently mentioned a Canadian model (Lana), here's another Canadian model...
Do you guys remember Michelle Legare?
She mostly modeled for Chanel during the 1989-1992 period. But other than her work for Chanel, I didn't really see much of her elsewhere. She was also once featured on the show Videofashion.

This is the only picture of her that I've been able to find online.
At Chanel's S/S 1991 collection.

Never seen that model before in my life. I agree that Amber was awful in those Versace ads, but there was that very odd moment in 95 when the Supers faded out and for about a year, Shalom and Amber were THE supers and they got a ****load of campaigns that I don't think they were right for. Does anyone have the Karen Ferrari DKNY campaign

I have to desagree with you Spiral. She was perfect for Versace and I don't think she was girl next door girl. She was very beautiful, glamourous, sexy, edgy and classy at the same time, so Versatile... The best qualities for a Supermodel.

^I never really got her...still don't,but I've always loved Shalom.

I don't get Shalom either. She is neither a va va voom model or girl next door pretty. She is very androgynous. I have met her and she was very nice-better looking in person.

Yeah, but I find her much more interesting looking. AND on the runway she KICKS ***,jokes! Of the 2 she is my fav:flower:. I try not to put 'prettiness' over actual skill, and Shalom gets the job done.

^Is that picture from Italian Vogue?
Btw, I've never seen a picture of Shalom from that far back. The first time I ever saw her was in the January 1993 issue of US Vogue. If I remember correctly, she was on the cover of that issue.
