Alessandra Facchinetti out at Valentino *Update* new Creative Director at Tod's

i recently read somewhere that Anna Wintour was "sad" (if she ever is ) that Alessandra had been fired, and the actual way she was fired.
couldnt you get her a cool job for us to enjoy, wintour darling?
we want alessandra back!!

Too bad someone like Suzy (who doesn't have to be afraid of offending the advertising dollars) doesn't say something about this ... or has she? I haven't been following lately :ninja:

As has been said, virtually everyone in fashion has a checkered career, I don't think this needs to stop her at all ... particularly when she clearly has behaved with class & done beautiful work.

I was in the Valentino boutique here recently, and I noted that the SAs were completely silent on this topic. Last time I was in, Alessandra was recently on board, and they were really excited, couldn't stop talking about her. I was making a purchase & was there for awhile, plenty of opportunity--but not a peep about the new "designers."

Too bad Valentino didn't look to Givenchy for an example of how to move on with class :innocent:

^ I think Givenchy is the only one who has, after deciding to retire, let go of the reins and retired with class...and let's be honest, Tisci's work for Givenchy is much farther from the original aesthetic than Alessandra's work for Valentino was.

If you want to hear a pretty straightforward take on the recent collection, Cathy Horyn said what I'm sure a lot of people in the industry wanted to.

^ Thanks for posting ... I liked it, especially this:

I’m a little surprised that Giammetti and Valentino are letting their egos get in the way and are supporting this approach.

I think clearly Valentino has overestimated himself. He believes that even a shadow of his former self is enough to take the company forward. Not likely.

^^ i think it's a very comfortable position for Valentino. As he said, he left when the party was still full (full of old tacky ladies if you ask me).
If Valentino (the brand) now fails, he'll be remembered as the irreplaceable, unbeatable master.
If Alessandra had succeeded, everyone would have seen that his latest stuff was "not so good" anymore... and that's where his ego gets in the way

Very well-put. I really disliked their first Valentino collection. And Ms. Horyn used good examples of designers who re-invented their respective houses. I guess Valentino Garavani is afraid that no one would remember Valentino before Alessandra. Certainly when we think Chanel and Dior nowadays we think Lagerfeld and Galliano as the aesthetic.

I imagine it's hard to give up your baby, but Gaby Aghion did it and Chloe has evolved, survived, and thrived.

Iam so upset by this, its like she can't catch a break, I still miss her from her short time at GUCCI, I like her and she is talented in my opinion

Great observation ...

I hadn't thought of it that way, but yes! now you suggest that borjacapella, it could be true! You never want anyone else's work to trump your own, and perhaps, for the sake of remaining the 'irreplaceable, unbeatable master' he didn't want Alessandra to shine too brightly. In that case, it is a bit selfish, but from Valentino's perspective, its understandable and this tatic also allows his ego to stay afloat.

I personally loved Alessandra, I wish the company would have ousted her in a classier way. I would be livid if I was her and found out from the press.

News from Milan...:shifty:

The Moment: Talk of the town has Alessandra Facchinetti (ex Valentino) already working on Tom Ford's nascent women's line. JJM #MFW

the moment via twitter ^_^

Well, call people crazy if they won't just take your word for it.

It may turn out to be untrue, but I highly doubt if it's unfounded given that The Moment blog is part of the New York Times. It'd be crazy of them to make something up.

ok then, i guess they must be crazy.

I know her and have recently worked with her. This is a rumour and it is not the truth. I hope this is enough now to convince you.

Actually no, it's not, because a lot of the time in fashion the negotiations of such things are kept private until a decision is made. So you may very well know her, but if the situation is true she may not be able to tell anybody about it.

Only time will tell.

i know both from tom and alessandra that this is not true. but if you wish to believe something posted on a blog instead, then who am i to say.

anything is possible in life, so only time, as you said, will tell.
