^^It’s true...although, it’s so obviously referencing that campaign. A tribute, maybe.

What I like about Hugo is that, like Meisel, he can reference the work of another artist or photographer, explicitly even, and still maintain something indescribable in his finished work that signifies it is his and his alone.

I am not saying that Hugo is at the same level as Meisel at this point in his career, and I think he has lots to learn and explore, but I appreciate that he is coming up with distinctive work right off the bat, here. There are hardly any other photographers working today who could say the same.

The point is that in his insta stories Hugo always flips through and snaps old vogue Italia 1998-2000 era. His works is so reminiscent to anything happened in vogue Italia circa 1998: Steven meisel, Steven klein, Steve hiett. All those group shots with tons of ppl, colors, composition.
He is not bad for a 23 years old newcomer actually. Hope he will evolve in something truly authentic, he is very young now.
