SHOUTING LOUD: Alexander Wang has two new promotional ventures in the works: his first-ever print ad, exclusive to Interview Magazine’s March issue, and a billboard to be unveiled at the New York intersection of Lafayette and Great Jones Streets on Feb. 7. But don’t call this an advertising campaign. “We restrained from using those words, because you set yourself up for doing things in a systematic way — like rolling out ads in the magazines certain times of the year,” said Wang, who prefers the term “image piece.” “For us, it’s about testing the waters and doing something out of the box.”

The four images, shot by Craig McDean, feature model Aymeline Valade posing samurai-warrior-like against a spare, sky blue background. “We desaturated the colors, even drained her skin color a little bit, to make everything a little more austere,” explained Wang. A video of the shoot will make its debut on March 1.

As for the Interview exclusive, Wang notes that he enlisted Karl Templer as stylist and Fabien Baron of Baron and Baron as creative director. Both work at the glossy. Baron is editorial director, and Templer is creative director.

hmm..no. They picked the worst pieces from an otherwise cool interesting collection. Model choice seems off as well. This really should have been Britt Maren's gig.

i wish they got rid of the runway hairstyle and presented the pieces in a new kind of styling. makes
me think that the clothes really were just one dimensional after all :ermm: it looks like a Lacoste ad.

i think i love the campaign.. but i should agree with AgrenateD it looks like lacoste ad, the jumping, the simply background, the vibe is so very lacoste..

but the pieces of the clothes they chose is actually good..
and i thought alex will chose brit than her..

Interesting. Can`t wait to see the rest

Looks fantastic. Great pose and I love the washed out colours.

A great shot for this collection, really.

gorgeous! it looks like an editorial from vogue uk in the late 90's
not sure if this is appropriate for a campaign, though.

I absolutely love this! The pose, the colors,it's perfect for the collection...Even the hair looks better than in a show ^_^

I want to love it but unfortunately I think it looks stupid. Like a fashion-school exam project. If this would be from an unknown student we would have all believed and slaughtered it. The pose comes straight out of an America's next topmodel challenge.

I luv it....think he will do well following Helmut Lang's footstep!

i don't like it. it's boring. it has no point.
the collection was trash, so i was expecting an ad campaign that
was going to do wonders for the collection.

I seriously laughed when i saw this.

The photograph is nice but the clothes...I don't even remember seeing those during the show.
I'm not a fan of the model either...

This is not an advertising campaign, though Wang is paying to run the image exclusively in Interview magazine in March. “We restrained from using those words, because you set yourself up for doing things in a systematic way — like rolling out ads in the magazines certain times of the year,” Wang told WWD. He prefers to call it an "image piece," adding, "For us, it’s about testing the waters and doing something out of the box." We can get down with this. Like these words you're reading? They're not words. They're letter collages, and they're totally differnet from what you see on all the other blogs.
the cut

If it looks like an ad, if it works like an ad, and if it wants to promote the brand like an ad, it's probably an ad.

Oh shut up, Mr. Wang. It's an ad, and not a great one at that.
