i'm trying to find a way to get the alignment better when i'm doing repeats

gius, I'm very much a novice at this. I've only done some hand painting on T-shirts and did not like the results.

i thought you said you've been printing for a while now already

Would love to see your stuff once you get some things done
i'll post some things too
so far i have done only tests... no 'complete' project like t-shirt, etc.
just random pieces with a print on it to see how the print will look

Separating colour layers on Adobe Photoshop

This is from the Photoshop thread...
It's for separating colour layers to create your stencils.

i used the Posterize function in Photoshop to achieve this effect
I'd like to separate those different layers (dark, medium, light greys)
Is there a way?
Or maybe there is another way I could use to create layers (for a multi-colour layered screen print)

and here is the response

You can use the "select color range" or the magic wand tool with a high sensitivity to make a selection of each separate gray tone. Then hit copy, make a new layer, and paste. Repeat for each shade, and you'll have a layer for each.

^Now that's a neat trick to try on a shirt. I'll post my results once I get something done... it'll be a while though (just too many other things to do).

Screen Printer Recommendations (Yudu?)

hey guys,
i've been thinking of getting a screen printing set. i caught an ad for yudu, and it looked interesting, but i've been reading mixed reviews. has anybody had experience with the yudu machine?
does anybody have recommendations for other screen printing sets?

Yudu sounds great^^ I watched the videos.. I've always made the frames myself, but this is really convenient with the light and drying systems. And I also like the registration lines they added. So awesome she does it right in her kitchen, you don't need to be in a darkroom like me <_<
What bad things did you hear about it? The only thing I noticed was, seems to be you only get two emulsion sheets per pack? And at that price.. You can get a good tub of it as a liquid and apply it yourself with squeegee. It lasts a long time..though you need to make a darkroom. But there might be brands out there that can be done in somewhere dim rather than completely dark

I think the only thing to keep in mind is if the company ever closes down in the future. I heard it happened with Gocco in Japan, they stopped producing supplies.. there was a light bulb that only they made. I wonder what bulbs this machine uses, but everything else (the frame etc) can be removed and used like traditional screen printing.

I have a Yudu machine

1. Watch the DVD to get the "process"
2. Go to the Yudu forums on the internet because half the stuff the DVD says to do are wrong
3. Don't think your going to do it perfect right away, almost everyone messes up there first few times
4. Buy extra emulsion sheets right away (I went through my 2 pack and didn't even get close to making a shirt)
5. You'll get the hang of it in no time and you'll only be making great shirts!!
