I know everyone here is into fashion(obviously) and probably shop at least once a week if not more, I was just wondering, do you ever want to tear your hair out when you look at all the stuff u've accumulated over the years? I moved recently and I was unpacking my stuff, and nearly ended up crying.

There was soo much stuff, suitcase after suitcase of clothes, clothes, and more clothes. Then came the suitcases of scarves, hats, gloves, shoes, belts, etc. Most of the stuff I hadn't touched in years. But I couldn't bring myself to give them away, I thought, what if this came back in style? What if high-waisted, bootcut jeans came back? What if boho belts came back? I couldn't let go of a single thing. After much organising and help from a friend, I finally managed to pack away ( not throw) the stuff I definitely would NOT be wearing this year. After much editing and stuffing, I finally managed to arrange my clothes into my rather small wardrobe.

Oh and by the way, I'm a shopper of the *normal* variety. As in I shop as much as any girl my age, but I'm not like a shopaholic or anything. If even I have accumulated this much stuff, how does everyone else manage? I mean, surely not all of us can afford walk-in closets?

 Oh god don't get me started. I look at my closet and cry. Its overstuffed and I can't throw anything away, but yet I am sick of 70% of it. What can you do? Sometimes I just try and rearrange based on what I really like. Also you can put some things away that aren't seasonal...

I only cry because I have all that crap and STILL can't find anything to wear on somedays...:lol:
This morning was a prime example.. Monday morning nightmare

I'm somewhere in the middle as far as parting with stuff though..
some stuff, say on the trendier side, I can toss no problem...
my problem lies more with the basic or classic things that aren't fitting quite right :innocent:

I have 1-2 sizes in BOTH directions that don't fit! Do I need all that??
I'm certain that I don't! But I have a huge "What if?" complex and can't seem to let them go!

To manage it, I keep all those non-fitting clothes tucked away along with any non-seasonal items or classics/basics that might just not fit in with my motif for the season. I do the ol' closet purge at LEAST twice a year if not more...

Right now.. I'm WAY over due for the fall turnover which I'm convinced was my issue this morning :p

i buy n buy alot. i just keep adding and i always complain that i have nothing to wear! I have a full wardrobe, chest of drawers and baskets of clothes, so sifting through it is sometimes a nightmare. however i do have clear out every season and pass things on to my sisters. i have never actually properly got rid of anything though!

i'm fully into fashion and hardly go shopping. it's not so much about money as it is about the fact that i dont like anything.
so i dont have an excess, no.

I have this problem, i try to sell things and give things to my mom and sister everytime they come over , but im still left with closets full of stuff i dont really care for anymore, its all very sad

I can't throw clothes out.. or at least I'm very reluctant..
My paternal grandmother was a very stylish lady.. handbags, gloves, shoes galore.. loads of party dresses.. and she was about the same size as I am.. Opening her closet.. with dresses from all kinds of special celebrations..her 25 year wedding anniversary.. the dress from when she turned 60 etc etc..was like opening a treasure trove.. granted a lot of the things she had not worn in decades.. but for me it was very special.. and I can't stop thinking.. Storm might think 'this' is the coolest item ever.. should I really throw that out ?

i have tons of useless things in my closet too so i totally understand, but honestly instead of holding onto things and waiting if they'll come back in style or not, just keep things you love and that look good on you. my philosophy (after learning) is that you should be down on your knees in tears if anyone threatened to burn every item of your closet...meaning that everything in there is something you love and wear. if it looks good and you feel good wearing it then keep it, if not, throw it out...doesnt matter if it's in style, if you think it'll come in style, w.e, just throw it out.
and i go to stores often but rarely ever accumulate stuff cause im majorly picky about what i want to buy and whatever junk i do accumulate that i decide to keep, suitcases in the storage room of my basement:)

You could give some stuff to charity. If you know you will be donating to a good cause you might feel better about letting old things go

Although I am big into fashion I tend to buy quality over quantity. It might take me several months to save up for a pair of designer shoes. Therefore, I don't own a lot. If I had the money I'm sure that would be an entirely different story though.

I just moved from a house with a walk in closet to an older home with a teeny tiny old style closet. It is a nightmare. My clothes don't fit and they are all smooshed together getting wrinkled. That isn't to mention that huge washer sized box filled with the rest of my "seasonal" clothes currently out of circulation.

The crazy thing is that I'm definitely one of those people with all these clothes and nothing to wear. I have tried and tried to go by the french wardrobe/basic staples thing but I always gravitate toward something trendy or eye catching and buy that instead. Then it sits in my closet because it doesn't go with anything or I don't have an occasion to wear it. I need to work on that.

Now I don't think you can ever have too many accessories. Jewelry, bags, sunglasses, and scarves are so much fun to mix and match. Plus, you never get bored. Again, I'm not saying I have a lot of these things but I still don't think you can have too much.

I also rotate my clothes regularly. What I mean by that is that if I haven't worn anything in a long time or I can't fit into it I get rid of it. If it is something designer I will try to sell it on ebay. Otherwise, I just send it to charity. Mind you, as much as I'm getting rid of these clothes I'm always shopping online, ebay, or thrifting for more so it is a constant rotation. I am very fickle and something I liked a year ago can easily become discarded without any sentimentality. Money is also a motivation for me because sometimes I can't afford to buy something else I want unless I sell something I already have.

well, it gets worse with age - I work hard, make money, and spend iy on clothes. I do not give/sell my designer things, I thought I was buying classics/basics all the time, but they seem to go out of fashion too. I'm trying to wear my older clothes, but it makes me feel like crap. I think it's maybe best to buy 4-5 outfits per seasom and wear them constantly untill the season is over and they are used well.

I know this feeling i just moved and I had about three super huge bags of shirts, nothing else just plain old shirts. (needless to say most of them have been given away or tossed). I used to use one plastic hanger to hang my 30+ belts on and now i need two, for suport because my last one broke :(. My jeans stack to about my waist when folded. It's really sickening...

...but in a good way :)

I used to have way too many clothes that I didn't wear, especially things that had been kind of expensive and didn't fit properly.

But lately I've been getting together with friends to trade. Everyone brings clothes and accessories she doesn't wear, and takes some things home that she likes. When you feel an attachment to something that you don't ever wear, it's a lot easier to let it go when you know it's going to a good home. And since you know who has it, you can probably borrow it if you really need to wear it someday.

I used to have a habit of hanging on to stuff but because I moved a lot when I was younger (dad's job), it eventualy became too tiring to pack and unpack so much stuff especially when you realise you've not even looked at more than half the things in the past 2 years.
It wa painful but I started giving away stuff and it was kind of liberating. I now have no problems with giving stuff away (except for a couple of pieces with great sentimental value). I make it a point to clear out my closet either towards the end of November or early December and bring the stuff I don't wear anymore to charity.
And then I start accumulating again ...

nah, i always get rid of anything i don't wear...can't stand to keep old clothes. my wardrobe is small.

i definitely have a lot of stuff. just stuff in general. haha.
as for clothes go tho, i don't have a hard time parting with. every season i dedicate a day to reorganize my closet and throw away/donate/pack away into boxes.
much more efficient this way, and then i don't have to look at all my stuff and tear my hair out when i realize how much money i've spent, heheee~

it depends, there are days when I feel like burning my entire wardrobe because I can't find anything to wear but then again there might be an occasion where I should clean my room/wardrobe and get rid of all the chaos and suddenly it feels like I had truck loads of clothes...
