Wow......

Every America’s Next Top Model fan knows that since cycle 3, the show might as well have been retitled “America’s” Next “Top” “Model.” (Because the series is really about the crowning of Tyra’s Next Kind of Pretty Girl That Will Quickly Disappear From Pop Culture Existence When She’s Replaced By the Next Kind of Pretty Girl.) BUT. Things might be changing with cycle 15. The CW confirms that the winner of the next season of Top Model will not be shot for the cover of Seventeen. Awww, how sad, I know you’re thinking. They don’t even get a cover shoot anymore? First they lost the chance to be shot by world renowned photographer Gilles Bensimon, and now this?
But, no, Top Model fans! This is a happy thing! According to The CW, the winner of cycle 15 will be on the cover of…Italian Vogue. Yes, you heard me right. Not Liechtensteinian Vogue, or Oklahoman Vogue, but Italian Vogue. That’s quite a step up, no? This batch of girls will really have to perfect their Smize to win the title.
Damn you, Top Model, and your ability to keep me interested cycle after cycle!

Also confirmed by digitalspy, NY Post, and other news sources.

LA Times writer also confirmed it on Twitter.

The next America's Next Top Model winner will get cover of Italian Vogue, not 17. Which means they actually have to find…a top model.

WHAT? I guess with VI curvy and VI black, maybe they're trying to be more accessible...

Downgrade for Vogue Italia. Upgrade for the folks over at top model and definitely an upgrade from working with "world renowned" photographer Gilles Bensimon (who again?)

Andre Leon Talley must have pulled some strings somehow...

this is a giant

to all working models.

What a disgrace!
I'm glad I experienced the days when VI was actually considered a reputable and prestigious fashion magazine.

And this quote below says it all for me, although I would say that the show should really call itself "America's Average Girl With A Modeling Contract."

There was one old antm girl who was in a spread in the black issue. I'm pretty sure she's considered the most successful girl to ever come off that show.

But a cover? Wow. It could be some sort of marketing ploy to get people who actually know fashion to watch the show again. I'm assuming having ALT as a judge worked well enough then.

Jay Manuel says that they are 'revamping' the show and that other changes are being made as well. At least its a step in the right direction for the show and they want it to be taken more seriously. I'm guessing the modeling contract will change from Wilhelmina to something as well.

They have had some girls on the show that have been quite good, but the fact they were known as 'reality tv stars' instead of models they weren't taken very seriously in the real fashion world. The only girls that have found some sucess in the real world of high fashion modeling are Katarzyna Dolinska, Tocarra Jones, Danielle Evans, Mollie Sue Gondi, Nicole Linkletter and Fatima Siad.

Danielle, Fatima, and Katarzyna have all walked for well-established designers in New York Fashion Week. Nicole and Danielle both actually had multiple CoverGirl advertisements and Nicole did Burberry Pre-Fall. Mollie, Katarzyna, and Tocarra have all been in Vogue (Tocarra was in Italian Vogue). So it's not unheard of for an ANTM to find sucess but its extremely rare. And even the sucess they haven't found doesn't compare to other working models like Karlie or Jac.

But anyway, it's been stated that this new cycle that has just begun filming is the 'rebirth' and is headed towards a much more realistic fashion direction. Let's hope so....hopefully ANTM can follow in the lead of Australia's Next Top Model and be at least somewhat reputable (AusNTM has spawned amazing girls like Alice Burdeu and Cassi van den Dungen).

^ Isn't it Elite now? Elite is pretty top notch as is... unless they go back to IMG or Ford, they're really not going to do better.

I cannot even believe this right now, haha. The show must be undergoing maaajor overhauls. I'm anxious to see how they change the requirements (lower the starting age? Raising the cutoff age? More physical requirements?).

part of me is still hoping that it's not true:huh::cry::cry:

what a disgrace it is:angry::ninja:

I actually kind of like it. VI must have set the terms and maybe now we'll see contestants that can actually model.

I don't think it's that bad. Maybe Vogue Italia wants more exposure here in the states. ANTM winner + Vogue Italia = big boost in sales. I don't care as long as the winner is someone actually fit to work in high fashion.

The prize changed from Elite to Wilhelmina after Cycle 12.

It's possible the new agency could be IMG since Tyra was just resigned there a few days ago.

Hmm.. Vogue Italia? same magazine that had Nicole Richie and Pixie Geldof on the cover? sounds like a typical 'let's surprise 'em' move for them. I'm still unimpressed. next!

I'm shocked that it's VI of all Vogues, it would make more sense if it were America but I guess Anna Wintour don't play that mess lol. This just sounds like some marketing ploy to get me to start watching again. sorry tyra I'm so over this fake crap, there is no way to make it seem like the real modeling world. I agree that this is a slap in the face to all real working models who have to work to get that coveted title (or at least be a favorite and get that position)

Ah, okay. A Seventeen backcover and a contract with Wilhelmina, quite frankly, means nothing. A Vogue Italia cover? With ALT as a judge already, this really ups the ante. I kind of want them to change the agency now and reeeallly change the name of the game altogether.

People can rag on Top Model contestants all they want, but honestly, the only reason most of them haven't been getting work is because of industry trends. It's not like you run across 5'10 women with beautiful bone structures and ideal measurements every day; most of them are qualified to be models. They just have that American look that hasn't been too popular as of late, and they aren't given much to work with by the show. If ANTM is going through a major image overhaul, maybe they'll start getting better photographers, coming up with more innovative shoots, and book better runway gigs.
