Apple's iPhone

yeah it'll be interesting to see how things progress. In Canada and the US the best/nicest/most expensive phones are NEVER free. It doesn't matter how much your monthly contrast fee is, you'll still be paying in the 200-300+ range for a 'high end' phone. In the UK (I'm assuming it's the same in the rest of Europe?) even the nicest phones can come free depending on how much your monthly contract it. Certainly there are some phones which you still pay some money for, but by and large you can get a really nice 'high end' phone free with your plan. PLUS you when you go to renew your plan, you get another free phone. No dice in Canada (and I'm assuming the states). You just get some money (max $250) to use against the price of the full RRP of a phone (let's saying in the 600 range for a blackberry). So for the UK I think having to pay this much for a money for a phone and the price never going down, is a strange thing and it'll be interesting to see if it stays this way. Sorry for the long post! :ninja:

the thing with the iphone is that apple doesn't provide your contract for you, at&t does, so the iphone will never be free, nor will it ever have a discount. even employees of apple can't get discounts on the iphone. that stinks, huh?

Yeah, that is so annoying && unfair too. Most companies do things like discounts so it is really unfair that apple dont =[

yeah but my point is, in the US unless your phone is a cheaper model, you usually have to pay something. In the UK your phone contract is provided by the wireless carriers (o2, 3, Virgin, Vodafone, TMobile, etc.) but you can get a great phone for free. So in the UK, paying as much as you do is a rarity and I wonder if it will remain that way there.

i think it depends on the time during which you buy the phone, before having my iphone, i had a samsung blackjack which is a really awesome phone, and i got it for $50 because i renewed my cingular contract. (the phone was originally $200!)

Maybe you'd like to sell it Jayson? ;-)

Ok I am a lame who has not bought an Apple computer yet. How difficult is it to use an iPhone with a PC? IF it is too much of a hassle I may just stick with my Sidekick. :-(

I use mine with the PC. It's easy and I have not had any problems.

ok, here we GO!!!!

first make sure have the latest version of
Itunes and Garageband.
garageband 4.1
itunes 7.6

(that's what i'm using)

1. open garageband.
2. at the bottom right, next to the i with a circle around it is, is a musical note tab (view/hide the media browser) click on that.
3. the medias browser opens, make sure it's on audio, now do a search of the song you want to use. mp3s.
4. once you have the song you want to use, drag and drop on the DRAG APPLE LOOPS HERE.
5. This will create a track for you. Wait for it to load, your track will be light orange. OK, hit play to make sure it works. sounds fine ok, next step.
6. at the center bottom is your LCD, with either tuner, measure and time. Make sure it's on time.
7. ok, so the ringtone can only be 40 seconds long. keep that in mind. most songs are longer than that obviously. so go to either the begging or end of your track on the bottom left or right, your arrow should turn into an arrow facing left or right, click and hold and drag to the left from the end, and right from the beginning of the track.

^ haha. thank you for that. i had forgotten about posting the tutorial i had made in this thread. i'm so sorry to anyone who was waiting for it! :(

8. shorten the song to the area you want to use. make sure it's 40 seconds long. use the time ruler at the top see how much time you are using. you can also use the drag to zoom level at the bottom left, right above the eye and plus sign to zoom in our out. this can help you pint point the area you want exactly.
9. ok, once the song, is just right. 40 seconds in length. move it all the way to the left. make sure it's at the beginning.
10. next, hit the turn cycle region of/on bottom on. it's right next to the fast forward button.
11. this will create another orange bar right above your track. now make sure that dark orange track is the same length as yours. done.
12. hit play to make sure everything is cool. next hit, the share tab at the top. SEND RINGTONE TO iTUNES. wait for it wait for it.
13. itunes will add the ringtone to your Ringtones tab. hit play. cool, Connect your iPhone.
14. enjoy.:flower:

any questions, feel free to ask. i tried to be as thorough as i could be, but i could have forgotten something.

no worries Izzie. :flower:

i'm actually quite adept at Garageband, been playing with it for a while now. it's like you don't need a studio or an actual band. i can create a full on song with the program.

it has made it easy for every kid, with enough know how, and skill to make their own music. Here's to the next Trent Reznor. :mowhawk:

I made my ringtones through itunes withough any problems, I dont have garageband but it sounds a lot easier. It was pretty self explanatory.

^ making them in itunes, you have to pay and making them in garage band, you don't.

How can I change the background/icons? I found a step-by-step tutorial, but it was with Photoshop and I don't have that unfortunately.

Anyone know another way? I use Windows.

in one month have my i-phone im very happy:woot::woot::woot::woot:

do mean your wallpaper?

if you do, I use this thing called Summer Board. I d/l it via Installer.

you can also change your theme into Leopard, and you can drag your icons around to your liking. just click on one, wait for them to start wiggling...and then move them around. even to a new screen.

while you are it, i recommend d/l this program called Snapture.
it does a better job of taking pictures than Camera does; zoom, grayscale, timer, multi shot, auto rotation.

and for something a bit more fun. Sketches, it's like the old etch a sketch on your phone. you use your fingers to draw, and gently shake the iPhone to clear the screen. i got bored of it after a day, but my niece loves playing with it.

any one else got some recommendations for a program they are using for their iPhone? share :flower:

Thanks Dorien- I want to change it to this:

On the modmyiphone forum, there is a place to download this wallpaper/background but like your wrote I guess I need to install Summerboard. So I will try that first then report back. I hope it goes easily. *fingers crossed*

I can't do the Leopard thing because I don't have access to a Mac right now. My friend has to get his fixed.
