Apple's iPhone

It is asking me to join a network, but it is asking for a password. I don't know the password? :judge:

This sounds like it's asking you to log into a wi-fi network... It will bring up any wi-fi networks in your area (your neighbours, etc) but if you don't have the password you can't access it...

Is wi fi wireless internet (as in what you use for a laptop)?

.. so I can only use the internet on my iPhone if I have wireless internet in my house?

I could use the internet on my old phone... and I don't have wireless.

Well I also have a 3G network, which is not the same as wireless, I'm not sure if your service provider offers that with your iphone deal or not? (I'm not 100% on this, sorry!)

There is mainly 3 ways to get internet on a phone.
-WAP, which is the oldest and the most basic can be used on most phones; but has very mimited possibilities.
-Wifi, which is as you say, just the same as wifi in a computer, and which is what ur iphone show you when its looking for network, and of course most of these netowrk are procteted, even if city centers, there many free spots available.
-3G which is what the last iphone is about. 3G use the same networks as mobile phones, so where u have a mobile phone connection u can have a 3G connection, but...providers dont give 3G for free, u must have a plan to access usually in package with your calls plan.
but if u have a plan just for calling, so it won't connect to 3G, check what plan u have with your service provider.

im confused
im getting one next week...
does anyone know any stores in the UK where i can get a case? or a good internet site (apart from ebay)

I have sorted my problem now. I had to change a setting to "pay and go" the internet is fantastic

How long do you all keep your iPhone on charge for?

I usually just leave mine charging overnight but an hour usually charges it fully.

^how long until u have to charge it again? cos the iPod doesnt have a very long stand-by time...

yeah my iPod is really bad. I'm going to charge mine overnight tonight and see if it is any better tomorrow. Just with me getting it today I have not charged it that much.

how long can you use the iphone without charging it....

i'm thinking of getting a new phone next week but i'm scared to buy a cell that cost over 200 bucks if it has issues unknown to me

what is wrong with at&t? so many of u don't like it...i was a verizon user before my phone got accidently thrown away in the dumpster

are there any other companies i can use besides at&t

The life of the battery drains considerably within about 1.5 -2 years. I got mine 2-4 months ago and I can use my phone quite a bit all day and then have a little battery life left over for the next day if I dont charge at night. I like to keep my phone on full brightness and then dim it if I'm getting low but if you keep it dim all the time I noticed that makes it last a little longer.

You can unlock your phone and use it with other carriers but that voids the warranty. I've been with att for the past 6 years without any problems, the only time I dont get service is if we're camping out in the middle of no where.

oh, thanks a tone for answering me....i think i'm leaning towards a blackberry curv

i'm just so confussed as to what to aim for...i still have a few days to decide..hopefully i can sample them both at the cell phone store before i buy

thanks Guessgirl96 for the info!
my guy wants to talk me into a Blackberry cos he has one too but i want an iPhone :judge: its just so pretty and cool haha plus i cant stand that lil keyboard on the blackberry
but like u, adore dior...i think i just have to have a look at the store before i make a decision

sorry forgot to ask....is there instant messaging possible on the iPhone? is there an app for it or something?

They have an AIM app but it sucks. It logs you out if you want to use any other App. I don't recommend it.

I had a blackberry before my iPhone (which I've had since August) and I'm going to switch back and get a Blackberry Bold.

I text more than I talk so I need a REAL keyboard. The iPhone is obnoxious to type on. I'm going to get an iPod touch so that I still have my apps, but I honestly hate the iPhone as a phone. As a browser it's good but that's about it. Oh, and I need my copy and paste back.

sounds like the iPhone isnt for me afterall...well as i said, ill check in store and see what works best for me
thanks for ur help :flower:

sorry to be a pain but i got another question...with the O2 Pay monthly contract in the UK, they offer unlimited Wi-Fi...what does that mean?
on the site it says 'Data usage whilst roaming not included. Unlimited Wi-Fi is available at any of the 9,500 Wi-Fi hotspots from our partners The Cloud and BT Openzone. Excessive usage policy applies.'
but im like  i have no idea what that means...

I'm with o2 pay as you go in the UK and I got unlimited Internet for a year.. I have hardly been on the computer  it's fantastic, really good. The charge on the phone is 100% better. I reccomend charging overnight. The iPhone is perfect for me :buzz:

i cant afford to buy the phone with pay as you go...but is unlimited Wi-Fi same as unlimited internet?
