Are there any fashion rules left?

"rules/guidelines" I follow:
- don't upstage the bride at weddings, obviously
- no white socks with black shoes & black pants
- i never wear a denim jacket with jeans if they are the same color
- if i'm layering tank tops, i always put the white one on the inside, never on the outside because it makes me look way bigger
- remember to balance (like don't wear a busy shirt and then lots and lots of necklaces on top)
- I never wear jeans that show my underwear when I bend over

^ please lets not turn this discussion a 'personal style' issue

the question was 'general' and we should keep discussing this in it's 'abstract' form
for personal do's and don't please visit our 'Personal style' forum area :flower:

I know that I have previously stated that fashion rules were a bit blah but one I was thinking of

- Do not overload on trends. Trends are just an indicator and should not be taken as gospel.

Oh one more

- Just because something looks great on Kate Moss and Sienna Miller does not mean that it will look good on everyone. Try not to copy Star Style, it is more important to find ones own identity.

i would do it out of respect by following the tridition..not because it's some rule
that doesnt mean i do this for every occasion...it all depends on how much i respect the tridition to begin with

Just one: No more rules!

Wear whatever you like to wear! If someone comes down on you, it merely underscores their incredibly narrow point of view.

The one rule: Always dress appropriate for the occasion. White is tacky at weddings and for most funerals black is the best option (although at the last one I went to I wore bright pink, olive green, and sherbert orange). Also work clothes are different from everyday clothes.

hopefully there are rules (this doesnt mean people follows them)...
unfortunatly, every now and then someone in the fashion system decides to go wild, and when the fashionsystemERs allow anarchy some really bad things like THIS http://www.tallerdebrujas.com/shoes/ldrag.jpg happen.
and there is no way this can be fun, ore cute. This is just NOT beautiful!

Rules R Made To Be Broken...

I Stared To Sound Smart!!!

 i wouldn't wear that If even they paid me.

I think we live in a liberal enough society to wear what we want...

...but in certain situations you have to follow rules. Weddings/funerals are the biggie

Honestly, in my opinion they were always more guidelines anyway, to help forewarn people before they hit the streets looking shocking. In the days of letting everything show (a la Little Kim, etc.) white after labor day is the least of our worries, though I do personally insist on winter white :innocent:

Fashion rules no, apparel rules yes...

You can better bend them when you're in your earlier twenties though and look good doing it, as with most things...

- Make sure it fits.
- Don't wear white to weddings unless you're the bride.
- Don't wear red to funerals. (My great-aunt did this to my grandma's funeral!)

- Please, please, please, don't wear socks with sandals.

^^ Socks with sandals... it looks awful

Other that I've heard:
-Never match your shoes with your handbag.
