Atelier Versace Haute Couture F/W 2020.21

That last photo..from behind, post #4. Looks like there’s a TAIL (a very expensive tail, naturally) sprouting out of that model’s a$$ (a very non-existent a$$, of course...but an a$$ nonetheless)

I often wonder ... how do these designs even make it to see the light of day ? Assuming they sketch these, how on earth can they put it together and then, looking at the final product, say this is good ? I don't see one thing that is appealing other than that blue mini dress on Joan. The rest is pretty much trash.

The word is dated!
Donatella is all about nostalgia for the RTW but maybe she needs to do the same for Couture. Gianni last Couture collection and even Donatella’s 2000 Couture collections are fresher and more relevant than this.

Some of the dresses are quite stunning especially in motion but some remind me of those dresses on prom dress sites

Very basic, you would really expect more of a concept at a house like Versace, it's couture and all but maybe I'm just asking for too much...I only like the pink mini-dress.

Ehhh..l disappointed, I loved when they did bigger voluminous silhouettes and used more materials but this is boring, especially with the embroidery, it’s so sloppy.

In the picture of Joan with the blue mini you can see the obvious photoshop. Trying to match her skin color, the lining and blue rosettes.

I love the idea of that pleated blue/silver skirt but it looks so messy. Nothing like that beautiful white gown Marisa Tomei wore to the oscars a while back.

That nude and black mesh/tulle overlay looks so messy, the Different gold earrings hanging From the nude dress also make it cheap, as do the silver embroidery on the white Collin dress where the seams are.

I do love the mint green mullet skirt.

I don't think some people quite understand what Haute Couture is about. This is tacky, maybe. Glamorous, definitely. Dated? Hell no.

Haute Couture is all about revisiting the CLASSICS that made the fashion house what it is. It's about promising to honor the relationship between the house and its loyal clients. Something classic, by definition, cannot be "dated".

You can hate it if it's not in line with your personal taste, but let's not get high and mighty. Versace was a pioneer in 'red carpet couture'. It may look frivolous, but that's its identity. I'd prefer that any day over pretentious designers who are too concerned with being 'avant garde'.

Watch any Atelier Versace collection from Gianni (specially his last one F/W 1997)...and then have a look at this collection again: there is a HUGE downgrade here!

There is nothing wrong with updating the classics...but there is a problem when you make them look worse than the originals.

Haute Couture needs to mirror it time otherwise, it would become obsolete. The reality is that Atelier Versace hasn't been relevant in years...
Gianni was indeed a pioneer and what made his couture exceptional was the fact that he was fearless and his love for pushing things forward. This ain't fearless and it's pushing nothing forward, and certainly not Redcarpet couture.

And you want to know why I consider this collection dated? Because it is precisely about red-carpet dressing, all it codes and conventions. I find red carpet dressing boring. Gianni did not designed for the red carpet. He designed for clients. Some of his clients happened to be celebrities. This is the twist.
No matter how excessive some of his collections were, you had beautiful daywear, cocktail dresses and some wild pieces. Those clothes were designed to be part of a Versace's HC client and they were designed to be a part of her lifestyle and they were designed for her to standout.

Even in a red carpet, no one would stand out with those pieces.

When it comes to Donatella, her Atelier Versace collection for FW 2000, is more relevant today than anything she has done lately in Couture.
