Australian Designers

There is a Kirrily Johnston store on Glenmore Red off Oxford St in Paddington. Look at her new collection which was shown yesterday at www.vogue.com.au
Also look out for Marnie Skillings, Camilla & Marc, Tina Kalivas, Mad Cortes & Josh Goot

hmm, prety profesional... nothing new or something that you would not call europa but anyway... i like some works, but just cant see,... no marc jacobs in australia :)

:innocent:living in australia i am sorry to say that most of it is boring and written off..not to mention predictable.. this is after years of close analysis :ninja:.

i would like to support aus fashion, but i can't bring myself to support something so.. lacking. there's maybe 1 or 2 designers who stand out, the rest are just a big bag of mediocre.
www.vogue.com.au has all the pictures from MAFW.

I completely agree with erzebeth and new dawn fades.

It disappoints me that there is very little in the way of avant garde design in Australian Fashion. The only designers who come anywhere close are Toni Maticevski and Josh Goot.

My favourite Australian designer is Akira Isogawa. His clothes are breathtakingly beautiful. Have a look at www.akira.com.au (check out his older collections).

^ Akira is definitely underrated... His work is amazing. I think Collette Dinnigan is a little bit overrated though... :innocent:

And I just thought I'd mention, I saw Toni Maticevski the other day :woot: :D.

lisa ho is gorgeous, i bought my yr 10 formal dress from there. i'm a life long fan now. its not particularly quirky or dangerous, but it'll be in fashion forever.

yeah, toni maticevski and akira are the good apples. alannah hill could have had potential to be proper good but she knocked off lanvin's black dress (famously worn by kate moss), well she made a top that looked just like the upper part of the dress..

What I like and what I think is unique about Australian fashion is the fact that a lot of it is accessible to the average person on the street.

mad cortes

Used to like Alannah Hill...i think her stuff is horrible now.

No one's mentioned Martin Grant?! He's fantastic...along with Toni Maticevski and Mad Cortes are my favourites. Tina Kalivas is also quite amazing.
Easton Pearson is quite good too and hasn't been mentioned but not quite my style.

Alpha 60 won the L'Oreal award this year I believe. Michelle Robinson is also a great newish designer. Will post photos later...

Is he quite gorgeous in real life?? ;)

bah..toni pulls it off mostly cos of his looks.. im not a fan of what he does.. i see a lot of balenciaga in his recent collection..nevertheless it is better off compared to a lot of the other designers who showed... i dont know how ppl can rate josh goot so highly...its all been done.. im not questioning their commercial wearable appeal.. but as far as designs go..i dont see why ppl shoud hype him up.. take a look at old helmut lang and chalayan..that would educate some people..

Why is the infamous street wear brand PAM not mentioned? They make some pretty dope T-shirts!
