Australia's Next Top Model

All this talk about "having class or not" is so silly. It's not a competition on etiquette nor are models selected on their social status. It's about taking great photos and performing in the variety of modeling duties. If someone does that, their upbringing should not have an effect on their career.

That said, Cassi bugs me the way she acts sometimes, but it's obvious she just has the foundations to be a successful model, I just hope that she's willing to put in the hard work!

Congrats Tahnee and Cassi (and Clare, my favourite!) :D

It's funny how in the Morning show Charlotte said that it's NOT a role model competition, yet during the finale, being a good role model is the excuse everyone used to pick Tahnee over Cassi.

Cassi did worry me a bit in the beginning about her professionalism and eagerness to model, but throughout the competition, as she said, she really has matured and I hope her 'big picture' is making it big in the fashion industry, not to get married and settle down at 16.

oh, baloney

noone matures over a 3 months

she can behave when she wants to, but doesn't that apply to everyone?

I'm not going to argue, but it's obvious in the beginning she was just there to have fun and towards the end, she actually wanted to be a model and started to behave professionally. That is, being able to contain herself and not acting childishly in front of agents and potential employers.

I'm not anti-Clare, anti-Tahnee or anything, but the fact that it is a modelling competition, I think Cassi deserved to win, though thankfully she didn't.

Bogan schmogan, models come from all sorts of background, it does not make them less of a model.

No you wrong, only the upper class pedigree should be allowed to model *sarcasm*
Kate Moss was/still is very much a chav anyway (Croydon).

^ lol i agree again ! ppl seem to forget cassi is only 16. still very young! and yes she can learn n grow shes still young

Sarah makes Jodhi look like a chocolate souffle with cherries on top.
Seriously, Jodhi was biased as HELL but still pretended better when Alice won over Steph
Sarah acted rude towards Cassi the whole evening.
Jonathan must GOOOOO
+ they never even explained why Tahnee actually won. I mean with the public vote its 4:4 ,so does the public vote suddenly count for two?

OMG I have just watched it and boooooooooooooo... Of course, Tahnee had to win. Arghh whatever. Dont remember who said that but I agree- Tahnee is more an actress then a model. Plus, if she had already some experience as she said she didnt need it that much as Cassie.

Yeah I was also wondering how come Tahnee won if they asked all judges and the result was like Tahnee 3 and Cassie 4 and okay, public vote (1) so even if Tahnee got it ( obviously she did), then it should be 4:4 !

WTF ??

Also, Charlotte, disappointing that you changed your mind and voted for Tahnee...

But yay to Russel, Priscilla and HB editor and Alex - I agree to what they said and even my vote foesnt matter lol I vote for Cassie too.

about the 4:4 thing,
i always thought that public vote doesn't count as just 1 vote, i think it counts in proportion to percents
we know that tahnee had 80% of public votes, so it makes 4 votes for tahnee and 1 for cassi [80/20=4/1]
so it's all correct, tahnee-7/cassi-5

^ Ah my friend and I were trying to figure that out too, I thought it ended up as a tie and didn't understand how that would give them a winner

Someone on another thread posted a link to a blog that explained the weight of the public votes. The judges vote was worth 10% each. The public's vote was worth 30%.

Wow thats a lot for public vote they count... what a bs. With that vote alone you can rename it into ' pick publics fave contest' and not a model one.

Lets look at the positives guys. Atleast Clare and Cassi can go and do whatever they want now in the fashion industry. I personally wanted a Clare & Cassi finale, as i felt it could've gone either way, personality out of the question.

Now that AUSntm has gone the ANTM way, lets bid farewell to the winners possibility turning out like Alice Burdue, and root on the losers with potential that we know will make the industry.

I'm hoping to see Cassi & Clare & Adele snatched up by the 'expensive' industry, Alex Perry knows a model when he picks and votes for them. Alice, Adele, Clare & Cassi

XOxo.... now for CNTM 3. lols

To everyone disappointed (including me), let us all remember that AusNTM is a reality show at best and we might have placed our expectations too high for the show to produce real working top model (and pick her as the winner).

I have to agree, our expectations might stems from the fact that Alice Burdeu won season 3 and she had two good seasons. We still dwells in that, even after Demonelza won the previous season and shoved away Myf S. who became a model working internationally.

All in all, no matter who it is, a model has a real big opportunity to be biased when choosing another model. They will, most of the time, choosing the model that they think resemble them the most. "A reminds me of me and I became a bonafide model, so I think A has what it takes." Sometimes they've done it without considering that they aesthetics to become a model changes overtime, and that the industry is a really subjective industry. What works for A might not work for B, etc. After all, to be a top model, like what everyone else said, you need to be in the right place, the right time, and know the right people. The right people will push you and want to work with you. They can be your agents, casting agents, designer, editors, photographers. However, in the case of a reality show winner (NTM franchise, and the root show, ANTM is already considered a joke), do we really think that the really huge name in fashion industry like Steven Meisel, Carine Roitfeld want to push her to be a really big model? The chance is very low, even if the girl is extremely exceptional. And lots of the models which became top model, rely on these people to be where they are.

In short, I do hope that Alice isn't a fluke, but let just treat AusNTM as a reality show after all, and not place too much hope in it. Sorry for my ramblings, but I hope I get my points across, especially to everyone who feels disappointed knowing who won the show. I hope it will ease up our disappointment. ^_^

Now back to the show. I actually am betting from the beginning that Tahnee will win this competition. Especially since Sarah M had been talking all about body image etc even before the show begin. I was rooting for Clare/Adele top two, with Clare winning. She, I think, is not necessarily the best model, but she has the whole package to win the show. She is modelesque, driven, takes good picture, has good walk, carries herself professionally (unlike Demonelza and Cassie). I think that if she talks about her family circumstances in the show, she might had Charlotte voting for her to be in the final two (we all know Charlotte is a sucker for those who not come from that good of a background and seems like a fighter). However, I applaud her for not using her family background as an advantage to win the judges' hearts.

Cassie, if she just keeps her mouth shut, is hands down the best model of the competition. She is very modelesque and has an interesting features (reminds me a bit of Doutzen actually). She makes me cringe when she walks though, but I am always not a fan of models with bad walk. Her attitude is really grating which is also why I still prefer Clare over her.
With Clare's walk, I am not liking the face she made everytime she gets to the end of the runway, it feels like she's pouting or something. Fly Snejana to Sydney to teach 'em how to walk!
Well Clare is actually signed with a better agency than Priscilla's. Chic has a better chance of sending the girls to work internationally IMO.

Adele, her comparisson to Alice is what killed her in this competition (they even made her hair red or orange). They can't have an Alice clone as a winner! Plus, her face is a bit too mushy/unstructured. I still like her. She should tone up a little bit more and lose more baby fat maybe and she'll be good.

Tahnee, I think she is not that dense. She knows she doesn't have the right body type for modelling. That is why she is OK with only be able to work commercially in Australia. Sarah's blatant favoritism for her irks me, which made me roots against Tahnee. The way that Sarah keeps interrupting everyone to praise Tahnee in the finale is just ugh. How many times has it been that "actress" has been used for Tahnee? That should be an indication.

I really agree with all the judges said. I was surprised that Charlotte voted for Tahnee, since she seemed like Cassi's biggest fan. When she told her reasons for not voting Cassi though, why only use that reason now and not earlier in the competition? If you want someone who has potential and professional, they had Clare who is both. But they eliminated Clare! I like Alex the most as a judge, I think he has the best point. He's probably one of the most sensible judge on all NTMs. Despite he's always wearing that stupid sunglasses over his head. Jonathan really needs to go. Bring back Michael Azzolini!

As for the public vote, what a joke. They should just eliminate the public vote altogether. We already have the Australia's most favorite model (the one that Clare won), why should the public also choose the winner? Or at least, couldn't they explain how the public vote works before announcing the winner? At least we won't feel rigged. Or maybe they should just kick Jonathan and make public vote counts as one vote. That way it'll be odd and won't be a tie.

EDIT: wow, this sure is long, sorry for this long post of mine. I've summed all my feelings for this season in one post. :D

i like how you analyzed the whole situation :)
yeah, clare was really the best and it's a fact. and then cassi and lola

idk about adele though, i think her face isn't even close to alice, her mouth is tiny, nose is big, eyes are weirdly shaped.
alice was perfection ^_^

I have some updates on this cycle's contestants.

Claire is signed with Chic Management.
Frockwriter can reveal that the third member of ANTM's final three, who many believed should have won the series, has just been signed to Sydney's Chic Management. With Catherine McNeil, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Myf Shepherd and co on the same agency's books, Venema is in good hands. As reported by frockwriter, both Venema and Atkinson were both named state finalists in the 2008 Girlfriend Model Search competition, which is aligned with Chic, before being eliminated when it emerged that they were already signed with other agencies. According to Chic's Kathy Ward, Venema also entered the 2007 GMS. Ward says that the competition's rules have been changed this year to allow models to be listed with agencies - however they must not have done any major modelling work. Also according to Ward, Venema was obliged to leave Adelaide's Finesse agency in order to compete in ANTM. Venema will remain at school and model part-time for the moment. Noted Ward, "She’s got the height, she's got a great attitude, she's a really nice girl. And I think all these elements will make for a very successful model".

Here is a link to Clare's portfolio. I am really quite happy for her. Chic is a good agency, and I think she will go far.

Adele had her pictures taken by Amanda Lim.

It looks like Cassi will put her modeling career on hold to help her fiance start his bricklaying business. I hope that's not the case.
The 17-year-old stunned the industry this week when she said her priority was her 25-year-old brickie fiancee Brad Saul.

"Brad has just started up his career down here and I want to wait until we are both ready if we are going to go overseas," she said. "I want to have a bit of money backed up behind us so we can get a house or something but setting up the bricklaying business is our priority."
The Daily Telegraph

Sarah Murdoch explains that she pushed for Tahnee to win to strike a blow for curvy girls everywhere. What a load of crap. I don't see the point in choosing a winner who the public loves...but won't book any work. Designers need to love her, not the mum at home.
As dangerously beautiful as runner-up Cassi Van Den Dungen is, Tahnee won my support and the favour of 87 per cent of the audience at home not only for her raw potential but her girl-next-door appeal as well.

More importantly, it was her role model behaviour overwhelmingly rewarded by the final tally.

It's no secret that I was one of the many fans of the show who was disturbed by the bullying which plagued last year's series and its winner Demelza Reveley.

Our audience runs across many demographics but it is young girls that I am most concerned about.

As much as I think she did make great progress through the competition, in the end I just couldn't trust that Cassi would best represent the show and what I stand for.

By comparison, Tahnee won such a broad following and my vote because she didn't want to win to beat down anyone else. She did it to raise herself up.
Her growth in confidence, especially how comfortable she became in her own skin, is something I am most proud of.

As a part of the national advisory committee on body image and diversity in the fashion industry, it was important to me that girls of all shapes and sizes could see something of themselves in the contestants we chose on screen.

Tahnee may not fit the mould for the sample size, coathanger-framed high-end model the fashion industry has been criticised for promoting.

But as the viewer votes showed, the audience is clearly ready and willing to embrace different sizes beyond the prevailing skinny girl mould.
