Hello everyone!

I was wondering if anyone could share some experiences with Aveda... how are their prices, how does it work etc?

I heard someone raving about how good the products for damaged hair were and was wondering if I should get any of those...

The fact that they're not testing on animals and say they don't use animal by-products is a big plus for me personally, too.

So, any information to share?

I found that the colour depositing conditioners were quite good (I've used Camomile, Blue Malva and Black Malva).

As for the shampoos, I've used the matching colour depositing shampoos to the conditioners and they were good for depositing colour/adding shine. I've also used Color Conserve shampoo. But I think there's something in every one of their shampoos that irritates my scalp to no end... pimples, itchiness etc. One of the ingredients in the three spoos I've mentioned is ammonium lauryl sulphate so no doubt that was it.

I've never used their deep conditioning products or damaged hair products though.

I have used many Aveda products (mainly because the salon I go to pushes them). I used their Damage Remedy deep conditioner, and it worked really well. I was actually surprised because I always hear people say that Aveda makes their hair dry. I love the way Shampure smells, but it does absolutely nothing for me. They have some finishing serum that I use too, but I don't remember the name. It is in a small pump bottle and is like a minty/light blue color. I also tried Sap Moss shampoo/conditioner, but just like Shampure, it did nothing.

I use a lot of Aveda ... am using Shampure right now, but cosmogrl reminds me it's time to switch out

I have sensitive skin & have been allergic to one shampoo, it's something new in an aqua/light blue bottle. It's all the botanicals ... those are what's causing the reactions. I took it back & exchanged, not a problem.

I like Sap Moss styling products, and I've used several things from the Outer Peace line. Also candles and whatnot ...

Overall I like it & they have a nice loyalty program. If you have an issue with something you can always take it back ...

I use this finishing serum and it works well. It's the Light Elements line.

oooweee! I really love it. It's a little bit pricey but it's really good like others have said. It smells great, has great company ethical responsibility stuff, and is really good for your hair. No scary chemicals. I've been using it since I was 12 and I get tell the difference if I don't use it for a period of time.

I have had a lot of different hair colors and cuts so I've used a lot of products depending on what it happens to be. Right now my hair is it's natural color and short so I use shampure shampoo and conditioner for the hygiene part. Then for styling I use custom control, control paste, elements styling whip and/or elements finishing fluid.

One cool thing you can do is rub a dab of control paste between your palms and add an equal amount of custom control and rub that together well and you have a totally new product. It kind "webs" when you bring your hands apart but it works great for a flexible moldable strong hold on short hair. Actually a lot of aveda styling products can be mixed depending on what you need. For lighter glossier hold mix some of the whip with a few drops of that finishing serum thing.

When I have colored hair or highlights I use the color conserve shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in conditioning foam. They really work to help keep your color or highlights preserved and looking bright.

To stave off brassiness in blondes, I use blue malva shampoo/ conditioner.

For natural honey blonde or light brown without highlight (when it's my natural color), I use clove shampoo. I think this was one of the original products from ages ago.

Also, no matter what color my hair is I usecherry almond bark deep conditioner or deep penetrating hair revitaliver once or twice a week to heal and add moisture.

Also, when my hair is bob-length or longer (it's very short right now) I use hang straight to keep it smooth. It's very light, and prevents flyaways but my hair is naturally straight so I'm not sure if it works so perfectly if you're naturally curly. You might need something stronger in that case.

there are other products I like too and would recommend but this forum is for hair only so i'll shut my mouth now.

I used Pure Abundence shampoo and conditioner recently and loved it. Shampure is okay.

PS I know they closed down a bunch of stores here, and it looked to me as though they didn't make any attempt to transfer people--they were hiring new people at the stores that stayed while getting rid of everyone at the stores they closed. I wonder if these two things are related ...

I have really dry lengths and a sorta greasy scalp, I dye my hair, too.

I love their conditioner. I use the Sap moss and the Damage Remedy.
I haven't tried any other hair stuff by them. I think you have to make sure that you get the right kind for your hair type.

what about the mint & rosemary shampoo & conditioner ? I knoiw it smells great in shower but how does they leave your hair?

No unfortunately , sorry I read it in the guardian it was in an interview with the owner of Lush cosmetics.

I only use the curl enhancer Be Curly so far and I LOVE it. I don't have real curls, but kind of wavy/light curly hair and never managed to get it into a decent shape. Since I use the curl enhancer though it's so much better!

It's not cheap (about 35$ I guess), but I use it every second day and have been going for half a year now with the same bottle

Oh dear I just see it's only 17,50$, it's so much more expensive here in Switzerland

Does anyone know how fast Aveda semi-permanent hair color fades? Is there anything I can do to speed up the process? thanks!!

I can't tell you how fast your color will fade since I don't know what the condition of you hair was before the color was applied. But.... when I was in middle school I stupidly did a semi-perm dye MUCH darker than my natural color for Halloween. I went to my (Aveda) hairdresser in tears when it wouldn't wash out. She used these crystals you dissolve in warm water that are a "stripper". They came in packet like oatmeal. I don't remember the official name but it was made by a brand called Ion that you can buy at Sally's Beauty Supply. that was for the heavy duty stripping.

To fade it here is the recipe I followed:

Shampoo with the Hair Detoxifier shampoo mixed with a few drops (like 5) of Active Composition oil.

Aveda's 'scalp benefits' hair series (shampoo, conditioner and serum (scalp remedy)) works wonders - I had a horrible itchy and dry scalp and after I started using the products the itchyness and dryness went away.
