Balenciaga F/W 07.08 : Anabela Belikova and Suvi Koponen by David Sims

i have a whole new appreciation for these ads after reading visconti's post. i'm so drawn to anything slightly creepy or "off" and these are definatley a gold mine of mystery.

^Thanks for those svsk sk2, this collection is my absolute favorite Balenciaga collection especailly because of those amazing star dresses!

These are portraits of women as warriors. The ads continue on from last season with taking the strongest looks from the runway and putting them in common, everyday scenes: a leafy safe suburb, a den replete with some fancy technology. What I feel is remarkable about the ads is that the info, the battle reports, don't seem to favor the girls or Balenciaga for that matter. They seem swallowed up, slightly lost though still armed--Suvi's shoes are strapped tightly, Anabela's in despair but in motion. These fish out of water are on the defense, though against what has clearly been left up to interpretation...

That last shot of Suvi looks like a portrait of 18th century English aristocracy, very post fox-hunt, but taken somewhere new with the ghostly undertones.

The ads have definitly grown on me a bit.

Suvi shines for these. She is so spot on for the aesthetic of this campaign!

Great photos! David Sims really gets this campaign spot on in it's entirety from model casting, setting, and mood. The ghostly undertones and melancholic stillness is beautiful.

Anabela stands out. Suvi has a dumb hairstyle. Overall good campaign but nothing as good as Coco's ads+

Love the eniter set! :woot: Love the moving picturs of Anabela.

Well, the enitre series has won me over. It's not my favorite campaign of the season, but it's definitly the most intriguing.

Suvi totally dominates this campaign, she doesn't even look human in some of the shots, more like a painting....plus, Anabela's face is concealed in half of the shots.

Part of me thinks we're overanalyzing the message of this campaign. In fact, maybe there isn't even a hidden, secret undertone to these pictures. I'm beginning to think the photographer simply asked the models to jump in the air or stand still, much like a typical Vogue editorial.
