CINEMA VERITE: For his first advertising campaign as Balenciaga’s creative director, Alexander Wang went for a “very cinematic portrayal” of his debut collection, paraded in Paris last February. “With lots of emotion,” he added, “in contrast to the austerity bestowed in the show.”

The American designer booked photographer Steven Klein and cult model Kristen McMenamy, although the focus is on the craft, detail and texture of the clothes, not her face. “[They] were the perfect team to illustrate this idea,” Wang enthused.

The fall campaign is slated to break in a range of June magazines. It will also be splashed over the hoarding of the new Balenciaga women’s store under construction at 148 Mercer Street in Manhattan, slated to open this fall, with a men’s unit across the street at No. 149.

Oooo this looks good. The logo looks so blatant now though but I'll get used to it.

The new logo look cheap

NO!
What an ugly new logo....And this campaign bores me to cry....

^I agree, they should have gone with something or other more FONTastiquè like Aquiline Two.

I'm Love Kristen so it will be something I look forward to.

I'm interested, Kirsten is always something special. Waiting for the rest.

I hope this is just a preview to get us exited, not the actual images that will appear on magazines, I really want to see Kristens face but judging by the article I dont know.
So far so good, extremely interesting. Great choice, you always get your best from Kristen.

Looks very boring. Why the Chanel font? The previous logo is more original.
The font has been used by Chanel to Tom Ford to Obama and also Russian Vogue.

It's not how I wanted it to be, but it gorgeous nontheless. The collection was one of my favourites this season, absolutely stunning. I don't think the logo is cheap at all.
I do wish to see more shots and hopefully a glimpse of her face.

Also, isn't it way too early for fall campaigns to surface? And it appears in June magazines, but that's usually Pre-fall right? I wonder why he chose to do it like this.

the font of new logo indeed reminds me of CHANEL

When you read "Balenciaga: Kristen McMenamy" first thing in the morning you cannot help but get super excited. And you cannot help but be let down when this is what you get. This image has absolutely no impact. I agree that the new logo doesn't look good here, it's a tad too bold and it doesn't really work in white, IMO. This looks more like a Jil Sander under Raf Simons campaign (S/S '12) than like something I would want to see for Balenciaga. It's boring. It seems like Wang tries way too hard to be mature and serious because he wants to be taken seriously at Balenciaga but it ends up looking too contrived here, although I did love the collection.

I'm not going to get stuck on the logo but this sounds really promising. Kristen is always interesting, to say the least!

F/W 2013 ads already? And in the June magazines no less? I was anticipating this campaign but I was willing to wait until July or something. Anyway, as others have echoed it doesn't look very interesting and the new logo is amateurish. Oh and I hope we get to see Kristen's face at some point, otherwise what's the point of booking her?

Firstly, I do not like Steven Klein collaboration with Wang because campaigns are boring, bland and awful (like the one in Malgosia Bela) Bleeee .... And I'm not a big fan of Kristen. :(

Oh, I like what I am seeing so far, but her hand does look really creepy...
