Balenciaga F/W 2013.14 Capsule Collection

I'm disappointed too, the pieces are just a rehash of what Nicolas did over the years (Leather Jacket with Quilting from S/S 11, The Egyptofunk Sweater and Tee from F/W 12, The other Leather Jacket from S/S 07 etc etc) I can see now after reading Nicolas' interview in System how he got so drained creatively because Kering/PPR/Gucci Group (whatever they're calling themselves these days) seem to be only caring about profits and not the creative structure of the house which is perfectly outlined by this capsule collection, it's dull and no more than new stock to pad out the stores.

It will be interesting to see if they continue their run of the Balenciaga Editions collections.

I'm presuming this was executed by the studio and not A.Wang?

This collection just screams commercial and does not reflect the level of creativity one must expect from a brand like Balenciaga.

I don't think the clothes themselves are that bad. I would have found them pretty great if it was from a mid-range brand.

I am going to pretend this isn't from Balenciaga. It will make me feel a lot better. Did Alexander Wang have anything to do with this? Because when capsule collections were done under Nicolas Ghesquiere, there were always lots of very accessible but innovative pieces but this....i just can't. I mean there are some nice a desirable pieces here but its all way too commercial for Balenciaga!

This reeks of Wang's hand. But who knows, maybe they got an interim designer from TopShop to lend a hand before he started?

why a capsule collection on top of the runway one? and a pointless one at that... was the runway one not well received with buyers or something?

Wow. Pathetic. My worst fears came true. This looks like TopShop. The runway collection was nice - I really liked it at first, but then, it started to wear on me...it really lacked personality. This looks so pedestrian.

I mean that lifeless mushroom sweater and ribbed turtleneck dress....REALLY?

This is a nice collection...for a "Balenciaga greatest hits for H&M" line!

Nicholas made impeccable pants, here the quality looks cheap, the cut is poor, you can see. While his initial collection for Balenciaga was sub standard but not bad, now we are starting to see the real Alexander Wang for Balenciaga, essentially poorly tailored knock offs of what Helmut Lang was doing in the early 2000s. My complaint here is the quality looks very cheap. Some of the looks are clearly influenced by NG , but here rendered in black or white in awkward fits and cheap fabrics.

^I don't think Alex is in there sewing pants  It is probably the same design team sewing the garments. The fabric doesn't look expensive but this is a capsule collection and it is evident they are cutting back on expenses here.

Obviously, he is not personally stitching it , but the fabric selection and the cutting is AW's hand, I can spot it. I have a pair of NG Balenciaga pants from 2007, there are no weird creases or gaps in the crotch area, and the fabric is of impeccable quality, I cannot say the same for the pants presented here.

should we really be surprised by this? i mean wasn't this the point of getting wang in the first place because they have more commercial intentions? seems this is precisely what they were talking about.
