Balenciaga Mens S/S 2014

^ did you click for the HQ photos? those details are definitely at the opposite side of random designs.

OMG! I have been made a believer. He had a great debut women's collection, and now an INCREDIBLE men's debut. Wang is taking full advantage of the talented design team at Balenciaga.
I. Want. All. Of. This.

 yeah I dont get what is random about this it is very cohesive and that jacket in the 1st post (2nd row, 1st look) is :woot: My one complaint is the fit of the pants. But I am a skinny trouser man so I would never go for a loose fit like that

I don't get the "random" remark either...this looks very cohesive, modern and desirable. Living for the dove gray leather jacket in post #1.

this is not by Wang, menswear is designed by Christopher Booth.

^ technically it might be true, but he was overseen by Ghesquiere previously, i would only assume Wang has some input now as he's named creative director of the brand.. anyways this isn't bad, but it's not particularly strong either..

Impeccable collection. The codes that were established under Nicolas work perfectly with Wang's direction.
Even though he didn't designed this, Alexander Wang aesthetic is very present : in the looser pants and shorts, the slightly androginous silhouette, the B&W color palette, the obvious sportswear/urban feeling of some looks but they become much more elegant and refined with the futuristic inpiration, the sleek silhouette and the amazing details. Also this is the best outerwear collection of the season so far.

Starts off pretty nicely but then becomes a little redundant in the second half, in my opinion. I like the outfit in the 3rd picture and the leather jacket in the 7th pic. And I definitely dig the overall aesthetic of this, it's chic.

Impeccable, when you look closely at the pictures you can see that the magic is all in the details.

Are we sure it's Booth behind this? From what I understand almost all the people under Nicholas left when he did. Not sure there was a change with the men's team.

These clothes read like a deluxe version of Wang's own men's line: painfully basic men's pieces with a "modern" flair. This is more formal, less sporty, maybe these clothes have more of a Euro twist. Not so much random as it is totally generic. If a man wants luxe modern menswear with a forward spirit he's better off with Dior Homme.

I'm not sure one can say that under the creative guidance of Kris Van Assche, this still looks lightyears better than any of his attempts for Dior.

Are there any more infos on Christopher Booth's background? Since when was he designing the Balenciaga men's?

You really think so? KVA's Dior Homme is far from my favorite but he does what he does well for his audience. This all just feels a bit pointless.

Let's face it; the blocks of what really works for Dior Homme from a commercial perspective are some best-selling staples of designs that still date back to the Hedi days - some of the shoe lasts, tailoring and particularly the jeans are kept untouched, similarily to how Saint Laurent decided not to discontinue the Pilati-era accessory lines entirely, which still prove to be popular.

Like I said, I have no idea who designs or had designed Balenciaga menswear in the past few years, but the silhouettes and separate pieces have usually looked good and have been styled well. This is coherently hitting on the same chords and I agree it lacks a bit of visual punch due to the limited colour palette, but it's solid and refined-looking. I'd prefer this personally over Kris Van Assche's work, but that may very well just be a matter of my personal preferences.

that's a good question, I got the info here last season, and it led me to guardian.co.uk and Central Saint Martin's official site. but due to style.com reviews, Nicolas was taking credits for menswear as well while he was there. I'm maybe at a good chance wrong about it.

something I want to say about is, Balenciaga's menswear established its own aesthetic since spring 2011 collection, and I don't feel it has changed even in this collection which Wang maybe is at the helm of it. so it's either Wang has very little touch on it, or Wang is really good at the consistency.
