Balmain F/W 2008.09 Paris

at 8000 Euros (average) for a dress they should have come up with something better

We will probably be seeing the same thing for a couple seasons more,too..But can't criticize it.Clothes are really the pieces that i would like to have!

still not as good as post-2008 but def better than the spring/summer 2008 collection

Balmain's collection always feel like one big stretch from one another

Who is designing the collection now? I stopped being interested after Oscar left the company.

I hate to make the comparison, but how is this any different from what Tom Ford accomplished? Further, his rise as an influential designer is the perfect example of someone shelling out simply for a big name. Whether or not his designs were "good" or "bad" there were eager customers waiting in queue. The same, in my opinion, does not apply to Balmain as many have noted.

Many-perhaps many not very interested in fashion-are hardly familiar with the name much less are willing to shell out 12 grand for something that is simply "pretty". Yes, Christophe's designs are at times hardly ground breaking and maybe even trite, but I find comfort in knowing that the Balmain women knows who she is even if it's so called promiscuous, which shouldn't even be indicative from a skirt that's too short, however, that's another issue.

In an industry of labels suffering from identity crises-see [SIZE=-1]Chloé-it's still somewhat relieving to know that I can expect a constant vision from Balmain, even if it strays a little from season to season, whether or not it's visually appealing. That alone does not necessarily deserve praise, but sure as hell should call for a little bit of credit.

That said I could totally see someone wearing this with a distilled sense of irony and looking quite chic.

I like his previous collections but this was just straight out trashy 80s 10 dollar hooker, animal prints have to be done in a smart way , I hope he vindicates himself in the spring.

after some time I've really come to love this collection. its so rock chic. its become a part of my top three for the season.

just heard Balmain will be launching a men's collection for SS09...called Balmain Homme, surprisingly :innocent:

I'm not sure if Christophe will design it, but should be interesting to see

I always look forward to Balmain. The clothing might be somewhat...erhm, skanky :D but the models never look cheap like @ versace.
