Balmain S/S 2008 Paris

Gorgeus collection, love the dark colours and all the emrodiery, not a fan of the pants though.

OMG what a show! What a way to start Paris fashion week..so amazing. I'm glad he did do something else than just short dresses this time.

Even the music they played at the show (lovestoned by Justin Timberlake  ) felt right in way ^_^ Amazing mood.

that was one collection i really waited for...
bit disappointed... though i like the "evening / night" part...
hippie-chic is back we get it!

may I add the pics don't really justify the collection..I almost dislike it on the pics :(

in real life on the other hand :crush:

Ick, it kind of looks like Janis Joplin but without any of the coolness. It's kind of costumey in fact, like a sick couture parody of Haight Ashbury.

More early 70's dark hippie. Oddly enough it all ties in neatly with the others doing smileys and 80's versions of yes, the 70's.

Round and round it goes, where it stop nobody knows...

I ADORE IT, everything about it is fantastic!!!

also, such a good progression from the last collection!! im in love!

Suzy Menkes' review

Meanwhile, Balmain, an iconic French name associated with the historic Parisian haute couture house, showed fashion for spring/summer 2008 as swinging with cowboy fringe and American eagle decoration.

"I was inspired by native America," said the designer Christophe Decarnin backstage at Sunday's show, as he greeted his No. 1 fan - Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana of Thailand, who had a fashion show for her own line on Saturday.

Taking a young designer is always a risky business - if you want to keep the original spirit. But even if the connection with the Balmain brand is hard to find, Decarnin has brought a fresh, youthful take on the house. His daywear was supercasual, not the streamlined city wear you might see on elegant Texan ladies-who-lunch but rather hybrids of the Western world: vests, rippling with fringe, worn with a camouflage top and flared pants.

There was a whiff of the 1970s, and flower-strewn evening dresses offered sweet takes on fashion down on the range. Add an American eagle embroidered on the bodice and feathery fringes as decoration. Baby-doll shapes in the designer's favored shades of lilac with white looked familiar, but Navajo-type beading added an extra touch.
