Bare Midriff S/S 09

I agree... bad 90's Friends Episode flashback. I'd rather see the opposite, high waisted!

so hard to pull off without looking trashy... but have seen it done by mortals.

lol ^ i don't think this is a trend i will be following

oh I've definately noticed this a while now
and I agree with most people on here about not wanting it to become big.. not because it's ugly (because I think it can look great when done right) but because on the wrong person this will just look terrible:sick:

I only like this when it's paired with something highwaist

Beth from the Vintage Society did this look a while back and looked really cute. I should try to find the picture.

This trend is going to be huge.

I first noticed it at the Mens Spring/Summer 2009 Prada show.

I'm going to assume Prada will do the midriff for her womens show and then everybody will swoon over it :innocent:

^ Funny you mention Prada because back in 2001 she showed bare midriffs. The look was either a cropped sweater or bandeau top with a pencil skirt or high waisted full pleated skirt.

Given her track record, I think if anyone has the power to make this look really chic it's Miuccia.

thanks for those spike! i actually LOVE #1...it's so 90s in that fresh, modern way... (even though the collection is from 2001, i know. :p) i still can't see most people on the street pulling it off though...

but i have to admit on the runway i am already liking this more & more..:innocent:

I like this when it's done with something highwaisted, showing only a little and emphasizing the ribcage instead of the tummy.

time to start running and dieting :innocent:
exactly what i thought.:ninja:

i knew that this would come back to act as a counterbalance to the extra-long shirts that are seen everywhere at the moment.
