Model Casting S/S 11

McQueen line up was great, quite cozy and beautifully modulated unlike those overdone & overhyped show castings of this season. Still, they booked some "filling girls" a la Julija, Lisanne, Simona, Marike and so on, but Hanna S, Iris E, Kasia W & Nimue S were definitely the "visual" highlights of that show.

 at filling girls...I definitely see what you mean

I thought the McQueen casting was great! It really complemented the collection. Lots of quiet, 'fairylike' (hate that word, like elfish eww), innocent, serene beauty going on in that show so the cast really emphasised that.

This season it became more obvious than ever to me, just how much the runway makeup has changed. It seems just yesterday every show had Natasha, Sasha, Vlada, Lily, Magda, Snejana, Carol, Kim, Raquel, Coco, etc. I mean, some of them still show up every once in a while, but it's clear the 'torch' has been passed sort of speak. :(

The torch has been passed indeed, but it's unclear who is carrying it now. Correct me if I am wrong, but there seems to be noone who did 50-60-70 shows this season. Maybe Karmen, Sigrid, Anna S, Jacquelyn, Joan, Jac, Patricia, Mirte, but even they are not doing ALL the shows. Times are different somehow...

Quite refreshing actually. Quality over quantity. It really makes me appreciate every established model, rising one and newcomer so much more.

The castings this season have been so random, I think two of main reasons are the amount of shows (and the fact smaller, or less prestigious brands/designers have access to better girls) and the amount of models available (including the usual new faces as well as older models returning to the runways). There is so much to choose from, both for the designers/casting directors/stylists as well as for the models (even though, of course only very few models have the luxury to actually choose the shows they're doing)

It's all a bit overwhelming and almost impossible to keep track of.

Maybe the ideal show list for models more than ever will be just 10 major shows in each city, and by major I mean Calvin, Marc, Prada, Gucci, Balenciaga etc.
Kind of what Daphne Groeneveld has been doing in Milan. It makes more of an impact than doing 60-70 shows in a season, I think.

Wow, really Karl? Everyone and their momma was at CHANEL yet no black girls. Out of Jourdan, Joan, Rose, Melodie, Ajak, Chanel, Sessilee, Liya, Lyndsey, etc you couldn't find even ONE black model that fit the collections aesthetic. I'm too through.

^he would've or could've probably used Jourdan, Liya or even Sessilee, I don't think he's a fan of the rest..yet.

Umm, but Jourdan Dunn has been absent :(:cry: she disappeared in Paris. She was doing soo amazing in paris closing Lanvin, Zac Posen, and boom, she disappears.

It's a new designer (Although Sarah Burton worked so closely with McQ), and the collection was very nature-inspired, so there were a lot of young, bird-like girls (Theres, Simona, Iris Egbers, Ji Lili, Hanna Samokhina, Nimue who closed, etc.). I personally loved the casting myself...a refreshing take that signals a new era.

I quite enjoyed the casting myself! I felt it was perfect for the collection (though Lindsey Hoover whyyyy :ninja:).
Whereas with Chanel I was just kind of scrathing my head - a billion girls yet nobody made an impression on me. The established and returning girls combined with promising newcomers failed to make an impact because thrown into the mix were like 50 other randoms.

i dont understand why there is not 1 black girl at chanel???!?!?! out of 50? really? karl, this is not modern. this is not 40's germany. i dont understand it. his show to me is now irrelevant. if you have 50 models it makes the casting less impactful. who cares who gets it. its not like its selective, if you are a white models.

i think the shows that really matter are the ones that pay attention to theme of the collection. Givenchy is always good at that, although the theme has not changed in years. Prada usually has a story that they tell with casting and they always nail it, but there are a few other notables this season - Rick owns, ann demulemester, Balmain - there is a definate "girl". Balenciaga this season was great and boyish and very specific. not like in the past where you see randomly lindsay ellington. Gucci there is a "girl" and celine is getting more of an identity, although her girl is chloe's girl, is stellas girl is Valentinos girl and is strangely, mcQueens girl this season. To me the kate grand shows are a big mess. she is throwing everything at them for publicity without looking at fit, walk, or style. its not working to me and i think is old now. she didnt invent the VS comeback girl - Givenchy did with adriana and Balenciaga did with miranda. she did make it trendy though. Now she is doing what i calling "heat magaazine" cast. it distracts from the clothes and is mocking giles i think sadly. guilty pleaseure is zac posen. at least he picks the big models for the superness of them and doesnt take that away from them. in giles they look sad and its like they are mocked with the hair and makeup. that is just my opin.

This post is made of win. I agree with pretty much everything you just said.

^ that just makes things even worse, and they only had something like 3 Asians there.

Alls I know is that KK is coming back big. It was disappointing to not see her at Dior/Galliano, where she used to roam, but Chanel & JPG made up for it.

Also love how Coco is booking the big shows.

Glad to see Gisele at Balenciaga.

Was really hoping to see Adriana pop up anywhere and that didn't happen.

Welcome back Carmen - not that she ever really left, but Chanel & Galliano

Lindvall's outfit was hideous and embarrassing at Ungaro (those pale legs...), but she made up for it at Chanel.

Any rumors about LV and/or Miu Miu cast tomorrow?

I heard LV is going to have like 15 cameras take pictures at the same time and so they will have 360 views of all the outfits.

Oh please...are you calling him a Nazi?

downright ridiculous, if he was, he wouldn't have booked naomi preizler, who's German-Jewish, by the way.

LV will feature plenty of Asians a la Givenchy last season! Kind of ironic because I don't think Katie Grand featured even a single one in all of her previous shows...

And excellent post fashunviktim

so... a lot of familiar faces at LV ^_^
Not eve the cast, the whole show actually reminds me of one of these 90's couture shows a bit... the setting, the music, the clothes, attitude .. well and the cast.

Oh please...are you calling him a Nazi?

of course i am not calling him a nazi!:lol: i am not saying he is not using jewish models! thats rediculous i am clearly referring to a time and a place where things were very "white". not modern or of today. i clarify if anyone was thinking i was calling him a nazi. i just think out of NINETY girls, he cannot use one girl of color that he likes? thats just strange to me
