Bare Midriff S/S 09

I like how the models pull it off, but I don't feel the general public would be able to pull it off as well.

I'm really not into the bare midriff. This is for the beach only, in my opinion.

As predicted by helmut.newton, Prada caught onto this trend in a big way. As predicted by myself, I love the way she did it.

Oh good god, if uber-cool fashionistos start wearing cropped tops.....I don't even want to imagine it. This is so not a guy look, kind of like bras or circle skirts.

wow..i love it at both alberta ferretti and prada..:o :crush:
that last outfit @ A.F. has to be the most wearable way i've seen it done so far....pretty gorgeous

I love prada ones. but not everyone can pull off this trend. at least it demands damn great tummy so that you won't get the 'muffin-top' look.

Well, what happens in the '80s... should stay in the '80s and never be force-fed into my eyes and mind. Let's get out of the VH-1 mindset of "I Love the '80s."

Sounds like late 1990s to me... which I'm fine with as far as following decades go. When the '80s and early '90s were both fails, there's always the late '90s or '70s. Pulling off these looks can be pretty tricky. My draw to this style was how daring it is to attempt such looks exhibited in this thread. The style can be a bit foolish to pull off when temperatures are 78 degrees (Farenheit) or cooler.

I almost immediately think of the teen and young adult ages in regards to this style. Only thing is, the styles expressed are a touch more classy. I fell in love with the Bruuns Bazaar images in Post #1. Most importantly was the third picture. The swoopy coat offers romantic appeal. Those shorts and ankle boots are also very lovely when paired with that coat. I also like the first picture from the Bruuns Bazaar. I like the shorts the most. The cropped tops from Alexander Wang from Post #1 are very nice. The black top from the second Alexander Wang picture is very shiny as well as cute.

I like flares, ruffles, and puffs as far as garments are concerned. I also like flyaway garments as well. The top from the Jeremy Laing model looks lovely. One would probably wear that top with her favorite pair of jeans or favorite casual or semi-formal pants.

I generally like this because it's a daring style that I can directly associate with the '90s in much the same way I associate the '90s with widely-flared bootcut bottoms. I have a general idea as to how I think this trend will be pulled off. Follow my lead. With the popularity of high-waisted bottoms, I feel the general direction this style COULD go is by coming up with some cropped tops... and then try to find some good high-waist bottoms to cover up the midriff. The difference between this day and age compared to the '90s were that high waists were definitely an "out" trend (as opposed to an "in" trend). If anything, this will give a little more versatility towards finding high-waisted bottoms to pair with short tops. It's probably too late to make this trend work as temperatures cool down or even become much colder. I would probably (if I were a femme) find some lovely high-waist dressy pants to go with a short top of considerable length. Or I could go casual and look for some high-waist jeans to go with a top of considerable length.

It will be interesting to see what develops from this style (if anything).

It's actualy really popular with bloggers at the moment, they kinda caught onto it befor S/S

^ I think the above women pulled off the trend fantastically and thus can illuminate the secret to pulling off this trend in an everyday environment.

First, the amount of midriff shown should be minimal. Each blogette is wearing a high-waisted bottom so that it's more of a "sliver" than "vast expanse" showing.

Second, they are only wearing solids which keeps the overly 80's/90's feel to a minimum and makes the look cleaner and more sophisticated. Patterns would only make these women look more like mall rats than fashion plates.

Third, each of their shirts is a scoopneck, which plays down cleavage and is sensual in a more subtle way. A deep v-neck would take this look to far trashier grounds, while other necklines would possibly seem too calculated or overdone and ruin the effortless chic effect of the cut midriff.

I think that it's a difficult trend to pull off and should be worn very carefully, especially by professional-age women (and hopefully never men ). However, it is quite a good incentive to keep up the ab workouts and can be a fun way to flaunt your body even if you don't have much decollete.

Ugh those girls look pretty bad ESPECIALLY the first girl. It just looks like something a homeless person would wear.

i cannot wait for the T. Amber Tiesen copycats to come back.
it's gonna be soooo funny !!!!
a DIY 501 short and a small white tshirt .... humm what a nice perspective for the beach ....
yeah yeah yeah the 90s are on their way !!!

i think prada did this in the early 2000, non ? but it was better/chicer as she did used high-waisted skirts and i truly think it makes a better look.

but make the Amber Thiesen's look back is ok for me....on the beachside ONLY, though !
