Best and Worst:

Flair has such great fonts. I like the title design very much. And the editors understand cover layout and spacing well. The end product is neat and never cluttered. The photographic selection is weaker, however. It is sleek, no-frills, but somehow the linearity is not as potent as, say, Vogue China's. My favorite is April (Angela Lindvall as a bombshell) and October (the hair, the dress, and the background work together). Meanwhile, Feb. and June just make me ache. A lot of people will admire November and May, but I think Julia Dunstall is trying too hard and Anja for me has always been a mannequin--symmetrically perfect but too placid to be exciting.

Italian Flair - the best is definitely November/Julia D and the worst, by far, is that pathetic June cover. What is that supposed to be? Surely, nobody could have thought it was sexy somehow? The only reason I mention the word is the lack of clothes...The perspective is ghastly...looks like her crotch is bigger than her head.

Well I think this is a very interesting thread,
seeing all the covers makes you decide and see who really does a great job through the whole year

I think Vogue japan is great, they do have a very interesting composition of photography, they have like a flavour for each month, and tehy are the most creative

I think vogue italy was great in that point, I mean I don't care if it s gemma or hilary, but the result of some of the italian covers was amazing, kinda like paintings, some of it are very strong

Of course that the worst covers are coming from the USA, those people do not take risks at all, even W magazines (which i used to have some respect for) are Far dissapointing

UK vogue seemed the most commercial for me
and Vogue France was a mess, I didnt get any of those covers...

I hope all the magazines keep working well this new year

Behind the Scene:

Doutzen got the bookend covers: Jan & Dec. The green pleated Chloe dress is a triple threat, appearing on the Jan. cvr of US Vogue (Sienna Miller), the Feb. cvr of German Vogue (Mariacarla), and the March cvr of Vogue China. German Vogue plays with all sorts of poses: headshots, thigh-and-up, and full-body shots. Alyssa Miller looks like the brunette sister that blonde American actress Elisha Cuthhart [sp] never had.


Best and Worst:

I like the clean lines of German Vogue but some of the covers are just hard to get excited about. The Natalia Vodianova cover (her pregnancy really is international news), the Natasha Poly cover (between this and the June Flair cvr, she's had two downers), the Gisele cover (obviously piggy-backed to a Demarchelier US Vogue shoot), and the Hana cover (too plain of a model) all lack excitement.

In terms of design and color palette, the Oct. cover is prob. the best: the dark hair against the red bubble dress with a hint of gold is very nice. But my favorite would be Julia Stegner's cover (actually the entire issue is devoted to her). Not crazy about the crossed legs, but that smile is radiant.

Best and Worst:

Vogue Espana is an underrated edition of Vogue. It has more originality than Vogue Australia and uses more location shoots than German Vogue. My favorite is the July Marija cover, and would love the Oct. Karolina cover if it weren't cluttered with text. I am sure Milla's June cover won a lot of fans, and while I do like its strong composition, Milla's eyes kill it for me.

The worst is the March cover with a depressed-looking model. I've seen her before but her name escapes me at the moment. Also, Missy Rayder's cvr is too plain for Sept.

I love the Vogue espana covers, except the March one by Lagerfeld with Virgine Ledoyen, indeed very depressed looking. Normally I would have bought every issue of Spanish Vogue, but because in 04 and 05 I spend way to much money on mags and my room got to small, so my newyears resolution for 06 was to spend less money on mags so I only bought the mags with good contents. Last year I only bought the october one with KK. The same goes for German Vogue, overall good covers but I only bought the jan, july, oct and december issue.

What's your opinion on Vogue Russia, Liberty Rose? There were some good covers this year, but Vogue Russia changes the lay-out of its covers to much, I think three or four times in two years. And Lee Broomfields style can be a bit repetitive, for example his two Tanya D. covers are almost identical.

I think the best CoverGirl of 2006 is Kate Moss. Despite horrible UK Vogue covers she did lot of great stuff last year. She was certainly over-rated due to all these scandals and her stupid bf but she did prove that she deserves place on the glance cover sheets of fashion magazines. I especially loved Vanity Fair and POP covers. So here are my favoritas of 2006.
