Haven't updated in awhile but I managed to get to my (revised) goal. I originally wanted to get to 25 books but realized partway through the year that it just wasn't going to happen.

I think next year's goal will be even more modest for me... maybe 12 or 15? I want to read the rest of the Game of Thrones books and tackle a few of the longer works that I've been avoiding in order to reach my goals.

Managed to squeak in another one these past few days...

I did it! Unfortualtely I doubt I can read this much next year. So my goal is also going to be around 12-15 books.

I'm decreasing my goal big time for 2014 as well...

I went with 20 books for 2013 but I think I'm going to start with a goal of 12 for 2014

I have a slew of longer books I've been avoiding because I didn't want them to take up too much time and I don't want to have an aggressive goal that will prevent me from tackling them this coming year

I agree, i do the same with large books. They are so time consuming so i spend most of the year reading it. Next year i go back to school. Thus my decreased goal. I had a lot of time off to read these last couple of months.

This year, I read less than in 2012 but at least I completed my goal. ^_^ I seemed to understand better my taste for books, cause most of them were likeable and I was able to finish the majority.
The only thing that disappointed me was that I couldn't find a new favorite, something that felt close to me, you know. They were mostly light reads and not as substantial as I wished for. Now for 2014, I'll try to be more picky and take some risks. I also want to find more books of fiction that are agreeable to me. Well, at least there wasn't something totally nasty on my least of reads.

Looks like my complete list for 2013 is as follows:

1. Dare Truth or Promise by Paula Boock
2. Ask the Passengers by A.S. King
3. The Miseducation of Cameron Post by Emily M. Danforth
4. Taking the Long Way by Lily R. Mason
5. Sing You Home by Jodi Picoult
6. Among Other Things, I've Taken Up Smoking by Aoibheann Sweeney
7. Osmosis by Susan X Meagher
8. Looking For Alaska by John Green

10. Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
11. Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins
12. Cinder (Lunar Chronicles #1) by Marissa Meyer
13. Scarlet (Lunar Chronicles #2) by Marissa Meyer
14. Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn
15. Dark Places by Gillian Flynn
16. My Education by Susan Choi
17. The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer
18. The Price of Salt by Patricia Highsmith

20. Orange Is the New Black by Piper Kerman
21. Love In the Time of Global Warming by Francesca Lia Block

As TanyaKiller said, I definitely understand my taste in books better so that's a plus. Moving for law school in 5 months, so here's hoping I can do at least 20 more in 2014 :magic:

Currently reading 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami

It was my first book challenge! Thanks to the Christmas holidays I reached my goal but it was a close thing. On the positive side I read most of the novels written in english without any translation.

Like other members I'll decrease my goal for 2014 (let's say 25 books) because some of the things I intend to read are time-consuming.
I also want to stop reading several books at the same time. I feel like there are many novels that I'll never finish because of this habit.

I'm not sure I will decrease my goal of books. I'll be back at school, so it might seem like a smart decision. But I got this huge hunger for reading now. I kind of got used to the challenges and all. I guess I'll see as the year develops.
I'm curious. What were the best and worst books you guys read this year? I'm always searching for new recommendations.:flower:

Congrats on law school! :smartass:

I agree with the both of you, making this list made me understand what books I like and which I dislike. I really enjoyed Gone Girl! I'm looking forward to reading Dark Places next year. I didn't finish World War Z, I got caught up in another book, I hope to finish it in 2014. My favorites this year were Pillars of the Earth (its a huge book, if you like medieval fantasy, like Game of Thrones), The Ring , and Khaled Hosseini's books never fail to be a page turner. I enjoyed Frankenstein's Cat & Columbine, getting to understand more about biotechnology was so fascinating! I want to read more nonfiction, does anyone have any recommendations?

Fantomette, how is 1Q84? I've been interested in the book, but its so big! I've seen film adaptations of that authors works and its always good.
