Book Challenge 2013

^please, please, please tell me WDYT of The Miseducation of Cameron Post? I've bought it just few days after it was published (i guess about a year ago) and I started reading it like trice but I've never finished it . I think I got to page 60 afterall  but I'm still not sure if I have to go on and if it's worth reading.

1. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
2. The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot
- thank you YoninahAliza for reminding me of the book series, it was such a great read, I now love the book almost as much as the movies. I'd like to read the other books from the series.

^ I loved it! After the first hundred pages or so, I honestly didn't know how I felt. But when I finally finished (in only two days) I just wanted it to keep going! It really is one of those books that stays with you afterward.

01. The Paperboy by Pete Dexter

my goal for this year is to read 30 books and to fewer young adult novels, i got really sick of those last year.
i also want to try to finish all the books i've started reading (around 10) and after that only read one book at a time. AND write a review for each book (although i'm sh*tty at that)

I'm aiming for 20 books (at least 10 of which have to be modern :ninja:). I am not a huge fan of contemporary novels. I like Zadie Smith, Ian McEwan, and a lot of the African (often by way of Europe) novelists, but otherwise pfftt. Give me Jane Eyre any day. Speaking of which, I'm not going to count my annual re-read of Jane Eyre among my 20. So 20 new books.

So far:

I'm almost finished with Beloved, which is contemporary, though still relatively old. And I couldn't wait to start Anna Karenina and I'm like 57 pages in already. I should probably finish Beloved though.

1. Our Best Last Chance by King Abdullah of Jordan

3. Gossip Girl: I Like It Like That by Cecily von Ziegesar (re-read)

9. Gossip Girl: Don't You Forget About Me by Cecily von Ziegesar (re-read)
10. Gossip Girl: You Know You Love Me by Cecily von Ziegesar (re-read)
11. Life of Pi by Yann Martel

1. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
2. The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot
3. Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf
4. Princess in the Spotlight by Meg Cabot
5. The Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann
- it was an interesting and worth reading book but sometimes it was getting repetetive and boring.
6. Saving Grace by Darlene Ryan - nice plot, I would like it to be longer though. It's written for readers with lower reading ability so I guess it's fine.
7. Before I Go To Sleep by S.J. Watson - well, well, well... it was good debut but it was predictable, very annoying at parts and a little bit slow.

Curently reading:
Unbearable Lightness: A Story of Loss and Gain by Portia de Rossi

last year I started off well but then I had to do so much reading and writing for my MA that I fell off the wagon :( only read 8 books and started reading 3 more but didn't finish :innocent:

this year I'm aiming for 25 books (but even 20 would be great :P ) and just finished my first one:

1. Escape from Camp 14 by Blaine Harden - story about first North Korean who was born in a work camp to escape both the camp and the country... incredibly shocking that such camps (hardly any food, violence, torture, hard work) still exist in the 21st century! :( highly recommended for anyone who's interested in North Korea.

^
that's been on my to-read list for ages, glad to hear you'd recommend it. i really want to read more non-fiction books this year and this sounds really interesting.
first i need to finish the 10 books i'm currently reading, though :(

1. The Life and Times of Michael K by J.M. Coetzee
2. Go Tell It on the Mountain by James Baldwin

Currently reading: Late for Tea at the Deer Palace by Tamara Chalabi

Am I still on time to join? last year I read 65 books but many of them were novellas and I didn't have a lot in my hands. This year I'm aiming for 30.

1. Atonement by Ian McEwan
2. Main Street by Sinclair Lewis
3. Miss Lonelyhearts by Nathanael West

Currently reading: Diplomacy, by Henry Kissinger
