Bottega Veneta S/S 2020 Milan | the Fashion Spot

Bottega Veneta S/S 2020 Milan

Asides from the menswear pieces (loved the footwear tho) the show presented some really nice pieces! I also love that it’s not 100+ looks of the same thing!

It’s a very practical and commercial collection with a timeless appeal. He is clever to concentrate on knitwear. I love the ice blue and the brown leather skirts!

That being said, the collection is quite underwhelming...Even more after the strong resort collection.
The jewelry are beautiful but god, those bags and shoes! Hideous...

This looks very, very weak overall. My first impression was that itlooks like a run of the mill NYC show.

I didn't like last season on the runway but appreciated it a lot more in stores. With that in mind, I can see rather nice, classic and wearable individual pieces and the accessories look super strong. Love the shoes.

Maybe it's the styling? Maybe it's the casting? Maybe it's the venue? The overall presentation is really not coming together for Daniel. He needs to take a step back and restrategize who the BV man and woman are and what exactly is the best way to communicate that.

I definitely find the styling to be extremely problematic.

Menswear looks sooooooooooo cheesy.

To me this collection is somehow wrong. the cast didn't make sense at all here, the music was pretty off, too. The whole vibe wasn't as edgy as the one from last season. And same with the collection actually, it felt very Old Bottega seen by Zara. It's sad because fall/winter and resort were truly powerful yet this spring/summer comes this... boring and not exciting.

Luxurious, but very un-sexy, especially the outerwear.

What a letdown!! This collection looks totally basic and underworked in comparison to his first one! I was expecting something powerful, like those amazing leather coats made of individual panels he made for his debut...but all I got was hideous monkey prints (which reminds too much of Prada)!!

You guys are really an impossible to please lot...
I wasn't elated watching Lee's sophomore runway collection but I wasn't let down either. I thought there were a lot of easy, light and covetable pieces, the knitwear was great, as was the leather. I'm not as sure about the tailored pieces and even less sure about the menswear's overall, 80's Montana feel...
What I get above everything else is the attitude the models projected, it's relaxed but not sloppy (on the subject: see Marni, for reference), it's self-assured, unfussy and fresh.

I'm with you on that, I found the garments much more interesting when I saw them in separates in stores. I didn't care much for this collection either. But I think it deserves another look.

We are, aren’t we? It’s only because I had such high hope that I was disappointed so.

I think at retail the collection will be great but there is definitely something amiss with the show.

I actually much prefer this collection to the debut (and inbetween seasons up to this point).

The debut was much too hard edged for what I think BV stands for. It was a very brutalist and harsh collection.

This show, however, feels much easier and aspirational and relaxed. Feels more Italian, too. It also feels less Céline, which is important for me, since everything he has done has felt too indebted to Phoebe, including the ad campaigns (except for the most recent one, which is such a Loewe knock-off...he’ll need to work on the marketing...)

I still kind of hate the footwear, tho...too chunky and gimmicky. I really think clothes like these could stand to have a really straightforward and classic shoe...an attractive, block-heeled, rounded-toe pump, for example

It’s nothing personal but this and many other Milan collections so far makes MFW look like it’s turning into NYFW’s sister. I’m not sure what’s going on with the fashion design landscape the last 3 years. Just been getting bland unfortunately. I know everyone can do better, which is what makes it disappointing. My two cents...

I'm disappointed with this because there are definitely more misses than hits. That oversized denim look is particularly 'questionable' and looks like something straight from a Marques'Almeida collection. Don't get me started on that horrible monkey and pineapple print. I can also imagine that those big sling bags will be very popular but it still feels like a gimmick to me.

With all that said I did really love the oversized light blue blazer look, that is fantastic.

It's depressing that this became an influencer brand in less than one season! This is a nice average collection with too much hype behind it that will be oversold and overmarketed to the point that I am already sick of it.

The knitwear dresses are classic and beautiful. I kind of like those disco sequin knee length dresses. I think some of it is a bit underwhelming and actually under designed but I can see these clothes doing well at retail for that reason. Pretty straightforward.

I am hoping he delivers more next season.

I googled "fashion for dummies" and this was the first result to came out. So bland and basic, I'm not remotely interested about what he's trying to say with this. The casting is a mess and although I love Chaix, the styling is not very helpful. Somehow I feel he's desperately trying to be what Phoebe was ten years ago.
