The collection Bouchra Jarrar showed on Thursday by appointment in her Paris studio should not be considered a diffusion line or capsule, but rather a slightly more affordable extension of the luxury ready-to-wear she showed during couture. Going forward, Jarrar will show her wares in two parts: the more lavish (Lesage embroideries, feathers) on the couture circuit, and its simplified, chicly tailored sibling during ready-to-wear. This tight, appealing lineup — all made in France — included a little black knit dress with a wasp waist, A-line skirt and gathered detail down the spine; classic sweaters that walked a slightly preppy line, and a little shift with graphic linear details, that will easily be at home in a working woman’s everyday wardrobe.

This is a nice little collection from Jarrar (that black tailored jacket with the fabric-covered buttons), but it seems strange that at a label that is couture-based and always extremely pared-down, that I seem to be questioning who exactly the pattern-cutter is and why are they working there?
