I just saw the video of her at home...I was kind of surprised- she didn't sound like I thought she would with her excellent upbringing...:(

I thought she had that typical, old-money, lock-jaw accent. I think she's great, calling herself an actress seems a stretch. But hey, she could break out with the right role like Paz de la Huerta--another scene girl who is now a legit actress. Byrdie's problem is that she may already have her fate sealed as an American heiress just living out her wayward 20's before marrying some other heir in her 30's, and settling down as a contributing editor at Vogue.

Derek Blasberg You loved this hat, didn't you?
Byrdie Bell Hats are a forgotten accessory in America - almost antiquated. It makes me appreciate the English, who still take pride in hats, gloves and handbags. That said, one thing Americans haven't forgotten are shoes. You'd be hard pressed to find a woman here who doesn't look after the Louboutins she's coughed up a small fortune for.
DB You were excited to reenact some 1970s glamour: Is there anything about that era that like?
BB The fashion! I was just watching Chinatown and found myself bewitched by the immaculate polish of Faye Dunaway. To me that character defines socialite style.
DB What's your favorite film from that era?
BB Where do I begin? American Graffiti, the Last Picture Show, Amarcord... I would have loved to make movies in the Seventies!
DB Which 70s icon would you most likely identify with?
BB Jerry Hall! She is so awkwardly chic... equal parts patriciate and iconoclast.
DB I've always thought I would have loved Studio54. Would you have been down with that vibe?
BB Absolutely. My mother saved some press clippings from when she was a girl about town in the Seventies and I make her tell me stories about what it was like. My favorites are the ones about Studio 54. It sounds so guiltless and joyful.
DB Your mom lives in Greenwich now. Do they were hats there?
BB Unfortunately, they do not. I keep hoping to catch a commuter train out to Greenwich and see men in real fedoras carrying leather briefcases like out of an old Frankheimer film - but it never happens. There are plenty of baseball caps though.

Monday, May 5, marked the return of the annual Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The evening, as always, was a super glamorous traffic jam of celebrities, socialites, fashion designers and anyone else lucky enough to get their hands on a ticket.
For this year’s event, we hooked budding actress and fashion trendsetter Byrdie Bell up with Brian Atwood, Creative Director of Bally, to attend the event. I was on hand to help Byrdie prepare for the big night! She munched on Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies and listened to pop music as she sat for hair and makeup pro Misaki.
After the event, I met up with Byrdie, Brian and Nate Berkus, at Socialista for a little post-Met fun. “How lucky am I??” Byrdie cooed to me as she slid into her place on the couch between Brian and Nate. “I had two gorgeous dates this evening!”

Birdie on the Verge
Byrdie Bell isn’t just a Manhattan It girl with a thing for motorcycle jackets, Neil Young and yoga. She’s a budding actress with indie flick street cred, and quite possibly the next big thing to hit the silver screen

Photography By Gian Andrea di Stefano

Shot by Shot by Palm Beach Illustrated on location at Mondrian South Beach, Miami Jewelry provided by House of Lavande, Palm Beach

It’s a tricky business, paying one’s professional dues.
Consider the aspiring writers who have sorted faxes and fetched coffee for years in hopes of seeing their name in print. Or the budding painters, who have toiled in obscurity and sold their pieces for next to nothing, hoping to be discovered. There are the dancers who have gone to countless auditions, the singers who have sung in dive bars, the personal assistants who have dreamed of having assistants of their own.
And then there is Evelyn Byrd Bell—Byrdie to her peers—the Chicago-born daughter of Palm Beach resident and New York Times best-selling author Ted Bell and Greenwich, Connecticut-based jewelry designer and photographer Evelyn Lorentzen Bell. Descended from Norwegian royalty, the 24-year-old model/actress easily could have lived off her lineage. Instead, she chose to follow her own path, training at some of the world’s best acting academies and taking roles in independent films to build her resume.
And so far?
“I’ve been killed [on-screen] three times,” Bell explains, matter-of-factly. “Twice in the bathtub and once with poison.”
Clearly, Bell is not your mama’s socialite. Yes, the statuesque blonde is widely photographed and active with a handful of Manhattan charities, but she has a refreshing candor that puts her in quite a league of her own.
Consider this morning-after post from Bell’s Twitter feed during Fall Fashion Week: Woke up on a couch. Pissed, I maniacally start looking for my clutch and six-inch heels. Then realize I’m home and had fallen asleep reading.
Right when you start thinking she’s a naughty little good time girl, Bell shows you in conversations and Twitter vignettes that she’s really sort of a fabulous (albeit occasionally clumsy) homebody with a sweet soul and wicked sense of humor. And where some starlets try to hide titillating details about their lives, Bell is a fairly open book, even owning up to the Internet video where she talks about her piercings (13 by her own admission) and former life as a downtown Goth girl. “I think it’s incredibly important to be honest,” she says. “I am who I am, and I would never cover up or hide anything because I think that’s what makes us all so interesting.”
Bell’s acting aspirations started when she was just 7 years old. An only child with an active imagination, Bell says she still remembers sitting on the floor of her parents’ apartment with her best friend and talking about her dream. “[The friend] told me I shouldn’t be an actress because they get shot,” Bell recalls, pausing for effect until her listener realizes that the friend didn’t seem to understand Bell would be shot with a camera and not a gun.
