Calvin Klein S/S 09 New York

gorgeous gorgeous GORGEOuS!
I've been waiting for this forever and thank god, I am not disappointed like I was with Halston.
I thought origami had been completely done but Francisco Costa has prooved otherwise - it's so utterly beautiful - folds and corners on classic pieces - BEST SHOW of New York.

The collections appears to be in a "still in development" phase. The play on shape is very interesting though very raw. The fabrics look amazing.

Russian constructivism meets modern times..

i want to see how it moves (if it does :innocent:)

i'm really liking this so far, but then again i've always had a soft spot for calvin klein by costa:heart:

I read the review at style.com and I wondered - whats the point of a review anyway?

Phelps, Wintour and Co. can say whatever they want - but if women ultimately want to wear the clothes, Costa has done his job.

I also think these shapes, although box-y, can really work on a voluptuous woman. I actually think they would look more proportionate on a woman with curves rather than a lithe 16 year old model.

yeah, I think the wearability factor is more realistic on this collection than on others with bigger praise this week like Marc Jacobs or Rodarte.. I can picture this on women over 60 or under 25 and looking just as good and individual, there's a perfect balance of simplicity and playfulness with these shapes and materials.

and reviews, ugh, yes. my problem with fashion reviews is probably not as big as with music reviews but finding one that's particularly enlightening and rich with knowledge is very much like a needle in a haystack.. covering a show or an album seems to have become just another chance to serve themselves in building up a reputation of whatever kind for some publications, and then some bloggers.

I'm not convinced by every look, but each piece is intricate and invites admiration of its detail construction. I have to applaud Costa for taking the risk and pushing the envelope time after time. He stays with his mininalism aesthetic but changes his design approach with each collection. That's a great example of keeping to your design style and philosophical core without repeating and recycling your work.
ditto.
this is not my favorite CK collection but it's really interesting. i'm in love with these 3 dresses:http://img129.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=46482_calvin_k_ss_09_11_122_1147lo.jpg, http://img153.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=46509_calvin_k_ss_09_14_122_873lo.jpg, http://img243.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=46515_calvin_k_ss_09_15_122_245lo.jpg.
the shoes are disappointing but i like the metallic silver sandals.

Agreed with everyone about the shoes - they're like an afterthought, normal pumps with a tacked on square heel. But then I'm just glad that there's a deisgner out there who is not about selling shoes and bags but focusing his design energy on the clothes. Too often, it's the opposite, like LV.

The reviews...they're beyond the pale this season. How can the L'Wren Scott stuff, eg. the Big Bird cape, get a more positive spin than Costas'? With the exception of a few pieces, this is much more wearable than Rodarte.

good lord! and i had high hopes for this!!
fw was so much better, so much more jil sander...
no good!

what a bold try!construction shape is still in mode..

very inspiring..best show in nyc imo...and can't to see their 09ss ad...:woot:

i agree, definitely a hit & miss collection. some outfits are great but some others will most likely go out of style before it's in style, but you never know, maybe a certain shape will actually look good on "real" women and not tweeny models.

i really don't like the shoes. i remember those sort of heels from late 90s/early 00s and just looks unflattering to the feet.

omg you guys see balenciaga everywhere .... just leave it alone .... and focus on the collection ....
it's AMAZING !
enjoy it for what it is .........

ITA. No one can poof a sleeve or a skirt without it being declared Balenciaga. What is the obsession with Balenciaga? Not everyone is copying them. Certain design elements are bound to be repeated in the fashion cycle. Nothing is truly original.

I am baffled people like this.....
It is nothing but satin sacks in white and silver and everyone is calling it futuristic...
Let me design a collection of square satin dresses, put CK on the label, and call it futuristic minimalism and make millions.
I am not even going to comment on the chicken wire heels on those shoes (oh wait I just did).
Awful, pretentious trash.

I personally loved this and hadn't even thought about the always too popular 'futuristic' adjective. I actually see nothing futuristic (as it's conventionally known) about this but to each their own.

Truth be told, if you'd browse through the forum, especially previous years' threads on Costa's collections, you'd realise this is hardly the place where a 'CK' on a label drags people into fascination. Leave that to Balenciaga or Marc Jacobs, there's inconditional love and a granted pedestal going on for them as you can see above. Calvin Klein, believe it or not, is actually quite underrated in this wood regardless of what he shows.

I know the CK label doesn't necessarily drive sales or influence peoples opinions like Marc Jacobs or Chanel does, I just meant putting a label on something and calling it fashion. (I do think though, if someone like Marc Jacobs had designed this people wouldn't care for it as much, but that is just speculation.)

Yes, definitely to each their own of course. There are a few pieces that are nice but to me the first thing I notice is there is nothing new here. I have seen origami, I have seen boxed in shapes and metallic and white to symbolize "minimalism". It just seems so typical to me I guess would be a better explanation of my dislike.

(However all the sack dresses are indeed awful. Especially the one with the bunched up fabric in the front that looks like a high fashion tumor.)
