this is not a runway trend...
but more of an observation and prediction based on cycles of fashion...

with the onslaught of leggings and babydolls..
and now little booties...

can stirrup pants be far behind?

if you look at the last time these things were in fashion...(late 80's/early 90's)
stirrup pants were around at about the same time...
(donna karan, claude montana, thierry mugler, azzedine alaia, etc)...

so i am guessing we could be seeing a surge of them in the very near future......
would make perfect sense.....
and go really well with the bootie trend...

Skinny Pants: A Brief History

Skintight women’s pants have squeezed in and out of fashion for decades. Now, with the reappearance of stirrup leggings, the look is back.

1956
Gamine Bohemian

Adapted from a bohemian demimonde of dancers and artists, leotards signify a lean, artistic minimalism when worn by doe-eyed ingenues like Audrey Hepburn.

1965
The Emaciated Crowd

From English mods to Factory regulars, skinny trousers are the uniform of the hard-edged and underfed. Edie Sedgwick’s famous legs regularly appear in nothing but black tights.

1981
The Spandex Revolution

The leg-hugging look returns in full force in the late seventies and eighties, when three seemingly disparate subcultures (aerobics, hair bands, punk rock) simultaneously choose Lycra spandex as a wardrobe mainstay.

1985
Going Mainstream

Donna Karan outfits a generation of toned, take-charge female executives in boxy black jackets, big gold jewelry, and leg-hugging black pants; for the rest of the decade, closets are filled with stretch stirrups and jodhpurs.

2003
The Vacuum-Packed Look

Balenciaga designer Nicolas Ghesquière sucks the excess out of fashion, exiling the bootleg cut with a collection that fits like, and looks like, scuba gear.

2006
Stirrups Live!

Jeans get progressively tighter, the ankle zipper returns, and sales for Daryl K’s stretch-silk stirrup pants ($275) have increased by a third this season.

i actually think they are great with boots. i know seven for all mankind makes some.

Oh boy....
haven't thought of stirrup pants since I was a kid....
wearing bright red ones with a blue sweater and my American flag Chucks:ninja:...

I may have to bring that look back.:p

yep you can get them at h&m's online shop as well. I've actually been planning on buying some in black. I'm thinking they will look great with a pair of opaque dark grey or navy colored tights under. Or perhaps some shiny purple socks.. :p

Also I'm planning on wearing them when skiing

Oh yeah they're in!!!! I just bought a pair of Seven & Hue carries a legging stirrup.I love 'em

All I remember about them from my childhood is that they were SO uncomfortable. I would always take the strap out from under my foot once I got to school ;) haha!

i got a pair to wear with boots  they do rub under my feet after a while, but they stay in place really well.

I'm a little afraid... At least back then my excuse was I was five and a victim of my parents dressing me. I feel like if I wore them now I'd just be a horrible victim...

Oh lord, and I did so love them. I can see how this would come through now....

thanks for the pics kora...

yep...
i knew this was blowing in the wind...
i've seen a pair or two here and there....
but i haven't yet seen anyone wearing them...
although it has been insanely summer-like weather around here...so no really has been wearing fall clothes
.......

in the 80's we had real rules about them...
you were NEVER supposed to wear them so the stirrup showed...
you were either supposed to wear a bootie that covered the stirrup or tuck into big thick pushed down socks and then into high top sneakers...

certainly you would NEVER wear them the way those are shown about with platform pump...
only hookers/strippers would do that...:ninja:...

and you would never wear flats either...
unless you wore big thick socks with them like i said...

the whole point was to create a sleek look, not to see the stirrup...

donna karan and other designers and editors used to give interviews in major magazines like vogue talking about how it drove her crazy when women wore stirrup pants incorrectly!...

that would be a serious glamour DON"T...
^_^...
...

* i bet we are going to see something in Lucky magazine on 'how to wear stirrup pants correctly'...

I've been wearing black stirrup tightsfor over a year. not on a regular basis, but still, when I don't feel like footless or footed blk tights, I put on stirrup ones....they are actually left over capezios from when I used to be in ballet....

I remeber this when I was kid, i wore so many of those haha :p

i was actually trying to find some the other day:ninja:

i remember i had a ridiculous printed one when i was 4 yrs old.

my grandmother will be delighted to know they're back in style, she still wears hers.

 The dreaded stirrup. I'll only participiate if covered with a boot!
