She is a charmer...she smiles all the time and is always "seducing" the camera.
Well...she was a professional model, she knows how to pose and to appear always in her best angle. I don´t see her as an attention seeker, but more like a seduction obsessed person, she is determined to be liked, or adored.

Anyhow, she does quite well in her role. She is adorable, or at least I cannot find a flaw in her looks and attitude.
I agree with your assessment (very well put) but being seduction-obsessed and attention-obsessed is exactly the same thing. Carla herself said: "What worries me isn't being disliked but not being noticed at all."
I agree she does exceedingly well on official occasions but I still can't accept her giving interviews every five minutes to glossy magazines. I could understand if she spoke to high-end newspapers from time to times but why the French equivalents of Hello, TV Digest, OK, Grazia, etc. Especially when she only talks about herself and her private life (in great details), never about causes or to promote French culture.
It's just too trashy for my taste (for a First Lady, that is).

I see what you mean Harumi. Outside of France we only get to see random pictures of her with Sarkozy in public appearances, and she looks great. I haven´t read any of those mags you talk about, I only saw her with Jools Holland and with Barbara Walters, and I find her adorable, even if sometimes she can be playing the husky voiced sex-kitten role a bit too much. I find her oversexiness quite funny and endearing, but hey, she´s not the first lady of my country!

I understand that for the french it must be something new to have a first lady like her.

There, there dear... Henry Kissinger's NOT trying to chat me up, says Carla Bruni
24th September 2008

Her considerable charms have won over everyone from Mick Jagger to Prince Philip.
So it comes as no surprise that yet another elder statesman should fall for Carla Bruni-Sarkozy.
Seated beside the French First Lady at a gala dinner in New York last night, even 85-year-old Henry Kissinger appeared thrilled.

Considerable charms: Carla Bruni lavishes attention on former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger who looks thrilled
The twice-married former American Secretary of State appeared unable to tear his eyes away from the former supermodel and the pair were seen chatting and laughing between courses.
Should her husband, Nicolas, who was seated on the other side, have been jealous however, the former supermodel, 40, had plenty of attention for him too.
At one point she tenderly stroked his brow in a very public display of affection.

Well done darling: Carla Bruni-Sarkozy congratulates her husband after he is declared the World Statesman of the Year in New York last night
It's not the first time Kissinger has been seen apparently chatting up one of the world's most glamorous women.
The politician was caught on camera enjoying a joke with the late Princess Diana, shortly before her death in 1997.
The French President, 53, was at the event in the restaurant Cipriani, where Sarkozy was given the '2008 World Statesman Award' by the Appeal of Conscience Foundation.
Carla, who was demurely dressed in a black shift and her trademark flat shoes, looked on proudly and then gave him a kiss as he accepted the accolade.
New York is the latest city to succumb to the brunette bombshell, who took London by storm on a state visit earlier this year.
During a three-day offensive, the Italian born model-turned singer-songwriter, won universal admiration for her stylish clothes and winsome manner.

Charming: Carla Bruni-Sarkozy leaves the Metropolitan Museum of Art
The New York Post breathlessly reported that the couple went jogging yesterday in Midtown.
'Bruni turned heads in a skintight sports top that bared her washboard belly as the seemingly winded president struggled to keep up in an oversized soccer jersey that covered a pair of way-too-short shorts,' the newspaper said.
She also attended a luncheon for literacy at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and met with Queen Rania of Jordan and Rupert Murdoch's wife Wendi about ending maternal mortality.
