DP Woman-
I read that book.
I read it initially because I was just obsessed with her when she was alive; thought she had great style but mainly because she was an imperfect beauty (not that it was so imperfect that it was attainable - i mean, she was gorgeous - but her style and beauty could inspire me to reach an understanding that looking nice (nice hair, taking care of your skin, body, etc., can do wonders; you don't have to be cindy crawford but as long as you look good) is a major factor.
anyway, re: the book - i initially (like the first 30 pages) was just annoyed with everything in that book. i felt like she was cashing in on her friendship with them, it was written under the guise of losing her friends and husband and her struggle to deal with it but it turned out to be yet another piece on how "special' carolyn bessette was (if you read articles, everybody who knew her claimed that she was just "special" which is kind of annoying after awhile), etc. I also thought her writing style was very cliched, etc.
BUT - after i got past the first 1/4 of the book, i completely changed my mind. I actually cried at the end of the book. This woman wrote something so powerful about being a mate to somebody who died young (anthony radziwill) and losing other people who were close to her at a young age. it was really profound, i thought. she also wrote in detail about her husbands treatments and it was just really, really incredible. it made me realize how lucky i am to not have to deal with that, and also how some people are judged (just as i did) was too early.
honestly, i recommend the book. it was incredible. an a quick read - i finished it in a weekend because i couldn't put it down.
