Carolyn Bessette Kennedy

I am hoping to attain Carolyn's level of style soon. I have some more shopping to do! I try to study her photos and see how she put things together. Although she never accessorized much, she always came across so polished. That is why I love her. She was also very mysterious. I think that in itself is very sexy. I will miss all of them very much.

Just wondering where you do your shopping? I have been looking everywhere trying to find that Prada camel hair coat.

Me too. I am probably not savvy enough to ever track down one like that, so does anyone have any suggestions of one that might be similar?

That said, is anyone else disappointed with the transition of her style upon her marriage? The dirty blonde, exciting, night life girl suddenly washed off the make up and tried to make her style as plain as possible. I admit her style became classic but her technique of whitening her face and disappearing in black, mirrors her assimilating into her husband’s life and the depletion of her own. She became a generic- can't take offense to- political wife. That's probably why they fought so much, the transition was hard.

On the contrary, I believe she actually came into her style upon engagement/marriage. Classic/simple elegance. As for her face, she apparently knew that less is more and gave it a pop with that gorgeous red lipstick. There are soooooo many women who could learn a great makeup lesson from her .

BTW, Oprah is having a special on John and Carolyn today. I already have my Tivo set.

Saw Oprah

I just saw Oprah. It was very nice. Carole Radziwill seems very nice and really painted a great portait of Carolyn and John. Especially Carolyn. She stated that Carolyn never really cared much for primping, it was really something she did when she knew she would be in front of the cameras. It is a relief in one way and a disppointment in another because you would assume that she truly always wanted to look her best all the time, but according to Carole, that just was not so. She was usually in a ponytail and a t-shirt with sweatpants and they both ate Chef Boyardee and Pop Tarts. She also never wore makeup daily. She dressed chic because she knew that she was going to be a Kennedy wife and had to put on the airs. Oh well, she did a great job at it nonetheless. As for her image going downhill. No way. I much prefer the platinum blonde hair and those red lips more than the dirty blonde party girl. She exuded tons of class when she was with John. Great transition. Remember too, she also had just started working as a publicist for Calvin Klein at that point and an image change was definatley called for. As for where I shop (asked chicliving) to which I answered in an email to her). I shop at Henri Bendel in NYC (unfortunately the store does not have a website from which to shop). Also Barney's in NYC (which, I believe is where Carolyn always shopped). I also shop at the Gap, Ralph Lauren and Brooks Brothers. I love Vera Wang, Chanel, Marc Jacob and Michael Kors. I also prefer a lot of black and chocolate brown in my wardrobe. For the camel hair coat, I suggest trying Barney's and of course, the Prada boutique, but it will cost you. Another suggestion is ebay...you may be able to find it or something similar to it for less money.

I love Carolyn's style so much and have tried to mimic her style for a long time. I was very lucky to obtain that camel colored prada coat showing here:
http://www.simplycarolyn.com/G7/01/h13.html but the size didn't fit me. Out of desperation I had a coat custom made after it for me. I am thinking of starting a custom-made line tailored after Carolyn's style. Right now only that prada coat is possible. But I love that red prada coat as well so it may be next. If you are interested in owning a version of that coat please contact me at [email protected]. I will give you the details.

How Caroline dresses is exactly how Manhattan women like myself dress ^_^ .... Stylish, minimalist , clean lines. Being a New Yorker I had the pleasure of meeting them both on different occassions. I must say they are the most stylish 'celebrities' or 'public persona' ever! It's just sad that Caroline left us so soon. Because she would definitely set the trend if she had lived another 50yrs.

I searched for a thread on her but couldn't find one:(
I've adored her style for many years. It's amazing that although she passed away more than 5 years ago her style still seems so fresh. CBK had a great eye for what suited her and had a elegant and consistent (yet never boring) style.
