Chanel Pre-Fall 2022 Paris

Wat the F is that for real? What are they gonna sue for? Stealing a vibe? Your honor the defendant clearly wants to be me she will never be glamour

It's serious, Chanel have issues about the fabrics, the design of the suits themselves and there is a preliminary audience date set soon. Of course, Saint-Laurent is trying to get it delayed. Unless both parties settle privately, it will become public.

I'm confused as to how they have any case against YSL because Linton or whoever can sell fabric to whoever they want to? Tweed jackets have been around for quite some time... I'm not a judge but if I was that case would go in the trash go cry about it. If people like the YSL jacket better then sorry no one likes flop Virginie get a grip get a life and get over it

It's is not public yet so I don't know what to say. Do you remember the SL winter 21 tweed suits and Chanel's reaction ?
WWD May 4th, Bruno Pavlovsky :
“How sad to see a brand like that parasite another brand. Saint Laurent is a magnificent brand. I think it’s such a shame not to write your own history and to have to sponge off someone else. But the customers won’t be fooled. The customers will decide which brand makes the most beautiful tweed jacket. I’m not too worried,” he said.
Apparently they prefer a real court now instead of the customers: both legal teams are in full steam ahead a preliminary audience, and Saint-Laurent is skimming in their archives to show all the different times YSL used tweed like that. Wonder who will bring the story first.
whoa fascinating. Yes I do remember...and I was thinking about it then...but then again, MiuMiu made similar jackets too, so did Celine, etc. no?

Yes they did, and many others too, so Saint-Laurent executive were quite surprised, and studio knows too and is pissed.
In the same time Chanel is very protective, they have trademarked some tweed patterns and they demand full exclusivity on their suppliers: if they make a fabric for Chanel, the suppliers can't provide the exact same fabric to other clients.
Chanel assume the similarities hold enough ground for a lawsuit.

I have only entry-level knowledge about copy law. You have patterns which created before copy law, but nowdays you can take old pattern and change, for example use rare colours, then you patented. This kind of issue is based on nuance. The lawyer study how pattern is complicated. If I good remember from my study you can change something some percentage (8 or 10) and then it is new things.
According to @yslforever Chanel will be based own patent and they try prove uniqueness. YSL will probably refer to the universality of the design and that they are based on their designs.
