I  this thread:blush: makes me want to go play dress up! Wait I'm 17 years old:lol:

Scott, very nice Jessica Ogden. :flower: Isn't she the one who started the whole naive patchwork/folk thing? I think your much cherished old BW collection would fit in very nicely on this thread too. BW's childish gestures are always a bit more interesting, child-like but also eccentric and deranged.

Here's another picture of the old-young Newsom :)

The "mutton dressed as lamb" concern is certainly legitimate, but I think as long as you are not wearing this style to attempt to look younger, but because you like its expression and personalise it for yourself, eg. making your own charm necklace from bits of silly toys you collected, it's cool. Besides clothes, I hang hundreds of cheap inflatable toys (Godzilla grappling with a plane, Ultraman, Doraemon) I collect on the balcony. It's become a favourite party hangout.:)

^well,it was she,Jurgi Persoons and Bernhard. I actually count these three along with Susan Cianciolo(just remember I need to get some images from her collections here as well!)as the ones who really started the who "naïve" handworking in general. But her simplistic quilting/patchwork technique has been such a strong signature of her's. I love it....looks even more beautiful in person ;)

So true about Bernhard too. I think the thing I like most is the twisted aspects. BW also had a better precision and a certain sharpness(besides Persoons,of course)than most others, then and now,do.

incidentally jessica ogden, susan cianciolo and the guys from fort thunder all went to risd. i wonder if they were at all influenced by each other? it might of been in the air... they seem to all have picked up on the school's focus on craft and appreciation for handwork.

I was going to get that jumper yesterday, I am soooooooo stupid because now I wish I had! It's looks great on that model I wish it looked like that on me!

All lovely the examples posted above :flower: I like the mis-matched slightly 'ill-fitting' shapes & naïve fairytale motifs... A few years ago w/ the 80s nostalgia, toys & gadgets for grown-ups etc. the French press talked a lot about 'kidulte' style - but I much prefer this dreamy interpretation of childhood

Cute cute cute! Im not a huge fan of the overboard look; huge knitted jumpers and flouncy skirt sbut i love the colours and the plastic and the humour of it all!

....and Tess Giberson. And notice how all of them ALSO have that childish element in their work?

adoring this thread, it makes me happy. ^_^

I suppose I have quite a lot of child-like elements in my style...I love girlish, flouncy full skirts, bows, peter-pan collars, and dare I say the bag I usually cary features several whimsical, childish keychains trickling off the zipper pull. and it is very true what others have said, in order to avoid that dreaded 'mutton dressed as lamb', you must not go about it full on, or in an attempt to look younger. it ends up just being creepy when you see people try that... also I think preferably it helps to be small as well.
