When you spend all day (and most of the night) looking at the unfathomable number of red carpet and candid images, sadly, the outfits start to blend together. The fact of the matter is that in this media-hungry world, very few celebrities want to get lambasted for making risky, personal, inventive fashion choices so they stick to tried-and-true looks. This “safe style” culture only makes us admire Chloe Sevigny more, as her intriguing selections are always enjoyable for their sheer non-cookie-cutter-ness.

When we put today’s What Would She Wear story together, we wanted to find some items that were reflective of Sevigny’s multifaceted taste. One aspect of her style is prone to wearing ensembles that are on the cusp of eccentricity, like when she was snapped strolling the Manhattan streets in high-waisted hot pants loooong before the look hit runways. On the other hand, the dresses she selects for events typically have classic lines (even if she adds some slightly subversive twist), like the vintage Thierry Mugler Sevigny wore to the Vanity Fair Oscar Party.

With these disparate sartorial influences in mind, we incorporated the unusual, like the black patent leather gloves with chain detailing, and the timeless, like the sleek black clutch. Nicely, this means there’s something for everyone. (Well, except for the preppy folks Sevigny grew up with in Connecticut. Sorry friends, no Jack Roger sandals or CK Bradley shirtdresses here!)

1. Sue Devitt Starbrights Lip & Cheek Palette, $35
Sevigny usually forgoes heavy makeup in favor of playing up her natural, tawny beauty. The warm colors of these sheer cheek gels and lip glosses reminded us of the shades she wears well.

2. Vanessa Bruno Fluffy Oversized Sweater
show
, $445
Seen above at the Chloe S/S 08 show in Paris, Sevigny is wearing one of fall’s most wearable items—the sweaterdress. Vanessa Bruno’s light brown, angora and wool blend sweater has contrast knit hem details and an oversized shape that’s in keeping with Sevigny’s style.

3. Miu Miu Black Patent Leather Gloves, $319
Always an early adapter of the most interesting accessories, we could see Sevigny in these butch-biker gloves. They’re not totally impractical; the palm side of the glove is black leather.

4. Wide Risky Business Sunglasses, $14
This year we’ve seen lots of celebrities jump on the bandwagon for this classic sunglass shape, but today’s subject is the sort of style-setter who can transcend the trend and make the shades her own.

5. AKA New York Elastic Skirt, $189
Every wardrobe requires a few fundamental building blocks, like this black jersey skirt. The skirt has a perfectly-sized elastic waistband and the inverted front pleat is a subtle detail of interest. All together, it makes for one hell of a workhorse item.

6. Jeffrey Campbell Nicks Shoes, $96.95
As mentioned previously, Sevigny knows the power of an unexpected accessory. These Jeffrey Campbell pumps have a four-inch heel, concealed front platform, and are available in the above, bold Cheetah print.

7. Croco Large Clutch, $38
This affordable bag has ladylike bones and an of-the-moment size (we love oversized clutches). The snap buckle closure and back zipper pocket are particularly handy, and if black seems too basic, pick it up in purple instead.

Celebrating Chloé's new fragrance in the City of Lights
Monday, October 08, 2007

(PARIS) Chloé lit up the City of Lights Saturday night with a rock-star worthy bash that boasted a crowd as diversely enigmatic as its three new fragrance faces: Clémence Poésy, Anja Rubik, and Chloë Sevigny.

"It's very flattering," said Sevigny on being picked to represent Chloé Eau de Parfum, before adding, with a laugh, "I'm concerned that the customers might be confused, though; I have the umlaut in my name while they have the accent. I'm Chloë, not Chloé."

And while Rubik stars in the current Chloé ad campaign, Poésy had an altogether uncanny connection to being a fragrance face as well. "I play a girl named Chloé in my film In Bruges," she laughed.

Michele Scannavini, president of Coty Prestige, and Ralph Toledano, chief executive officer of Chloé, welcomed nearly 800 guests, including Lily Cole, Mary-Kate Olsen, Justin Giunta, Sidney and Katia Toledano, Ludivine Sagnier, Kirsten Dunst, Ellen von Unwerth, Joey Starr, and Julie Depardieu to the Hotel de la Monnaie on the Left Bank, redecorated for the occasion in the style of the new scent with dozens of votives, oversized perfume bottles, and dedicated rooms named after each of the fragrance faces, all lit up in different hues. The venue even boasted a private women's only salon where guests could experience the powdery rose notes.

Back in the main room, under massive moving black and white images taken by ad campaign photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin (and art directed by Ezra Petronio) that played on screen, Sevigny jokingly played the role of a shrinking violet. "It's slightly mortifying," she laughed to friend, deejay, and designer Ben Cho. "Who wants to see a 50-inch version of their face? But I just love that Anja; I just want to eat her up. She's Polish, my mom's Polish." Cho, meanwhile, was in town for sales appointments and said this was the first fashion event, save for the Purple magazine party he spun at, that he attended all week. "I didn't go to any shows, but I did go for the second time to Père Lachaise to see Oscar Wilde's grave," he said. "We were ducking behind tombstones like we were playing paintball!"

The three fragrance faces were shot individually for ads that will run separately in February 2008 books. Poésy, Sevigny, and Rubik were each selected to represent a different element of the Chloé woman: romantic; edgy; and sexy and sensual, respectively. "Romantic is nice, no?" said Poésy. "But I hope I'm free spirited too."

Chloé Eau de Parfum, created by Robertet's perfumers Michel Almairac and Amandine Marie, includes notes of rose, magnolia, lily of the valley, and cedarwood. Its bottle is by Patrick Veillet. Chloé devotees were part of focus groups to test the fragrance.

Chloé Eau de Parfum will, in the first year, bow in 8,000 doors worldwide, including Saks Fifth Avenue, an exclusive launch partner. The lineup will include a 30-ml. edp spray for $60, a 50-ml. edp spray for $80, a 75-ml. edp spray for $95, and complementary ancillaries. While Coty executives did not reveal projected sales figures, the scent is expected to bring in upwards of $30 million in wholesale revenues during its first year.

Following a performance by The Kills, who played a few sets in their first live concert in a year, guests partied into the wee hours of the morning to beats mixed by DJ Olympia, 24 Court, and Maud from Scratch Massive.
"It feels good," said Poésy. "A day of shooting and dancing. Why not?"

I never really look up to celebrities style that much really, but Chloe Sevigny has THE best style.

Chloe looks great in that YSL dress. She looks pregnant or maybe its just wishful thinking in my part.

Haha, I was thinking dark red too, the lipstick shade AND the shoes (a pair of pumps with it would have made it look perfect..to me ).

Yeah, exactly! :) Do you remember how well it worked for Reese Witherspoon at this year's Golden Globes? She looked AMAZING in the golden-yellow dress and dark red shoes!

hey guys i sw her again saturday.
this time her heels were HIGH bc she was way taller and her outfit was very nice. it included a jade shawl the same glasses pants and she was still huffy puffy, walking in the same direction and fast and didn't look around at all. my friend was walking facing her in her line and i started hitting my friend to point her out and chloe kept huffing and puffing by all fast but i bet she noticed. oh but this time her hair was down and flowing beside her and looked really good like in the aprty pictures. she has def lost a lot of weight lately
