Chloe Sevigny

I also forgot to mention that the things Chloe wear aren't even crazy or as out there as people make it sound like they are. She just doesn't dress to please the generalized masses like a lot of Hollywood does.

And that's the truth. I mean really... why do people keep saying she dresses outrageous or ''out there''?

That's not really the way it works. There are people from the past who are legitimate style icons whose style not everyone loves and not every style icons' way of dressing suits everyone's own taste.

I agree. And actually, I think her style is timeless. Things she wore ten years ago look just as fresh today as they did back then. Of course she isn't an Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly kind of classic, but she's classic in her own quirky, grungy way. She's consistent. She always remains true to herself, and I admire her for that.

I agree. I love Audrey's simplicity but I think it would a little dull and very limiting to restrict whatever is considered timeless to whatever is considered classic.

i doubt she's the iconic dresser of today. her style is controversial. people either like it or hate it. to me iconic means one's style will stand the test of time and even in 10 years time it still looks so modern. i think only Chloe's fans will think she can pull off anything even in ridiculous clothes but if you ask not fans of hers, they won't think the same.

If you look at old pictures that are about 10 years old, a lot of Chloe's outfits look like things and match a lot of trends people are following today. Chloe is definitely ahead of the curve in that respect. I don't know if I'd call her the be all end all iconic fashionista but she's certainly up there in that respect.

I think it would be nice if you gave us an example as to who is an iconic dresser of today. Take a look at WWWD and most celebrities wear items from the catwalk without any real consideration to their shape, image, etc. Chloe however, is straight out of the ninties and it's something those of us can relate to. I'd like to know what you think will stand the test of time, because given her day two outfit, which is a throwback to a trend that is at least a decade old, to see Chloe wearing that again stands the test of time. It's modern, the hairstyle is rockabilly, and she's at a concert which if anything is about comfort above all. Had you chosen a red carpet look to pick on I'd give you the time of day but I can't fathom you trying to pick on a candid outfit of anyones, because naturally the wearer dresses for themself and not for others. That in itself makes Chloe's outfits timeless. She's not pairing leggings with oversized shirts, she's not wearing heels with Alexander Wang. She's wearing vintage and giving it her own personality. I give credit where it's worth and in comparison to other celebrity candid styles, she takes the cake.

^ Well in defense of fontana, she wasn't criticizing any outfit(s) in particular.

I think it's fine if someone doesn't like Chloe's style. She's not for everyone. And while I love coming to this thread to post/look at photos and discuss her latest outfits, it's nice to have a different viewpoint on here. :)

classicalbang, thank you. you're the only sensible person to see my point here.

so you admit the generalized masses think her style is crazy? (j/k) ;) i agree with you that not every style icons' style suits everyone's taste. however just because your definition of iconic is different than mine that doesn't mean mine is totally wrong. also if we want to broaden the meaning of timeless and classic, this argument will be ceaseless coz we'll never have concerted answer. in short you already sum up your point that it all comes down to personal taste. :flower:

I don't know if I'd call her the be all end all iconic fashionista but she's certainly up there in that respect.

that's my point. i don't dislike her style but i wouldn't call her style iconic coz she often wears crazy outfits. of course everyone has his/her meaning of iconic so let's respect each other's opinion.

(1) Had you chosen a red carpet look to pick on I'd give you the time of day but I can't fathom you trying to pick on a candid outfit of anyones, because naturally the wearer dresses for themself and not for others. (2) She's not pairing leggings with oversized shirts, (3) she's not wearing heels with Alexander Wang.

(1) you miss my point. i'm in no way to pick on every outfit of hers. that's so childish if anyone tries to do so. like i said it before, i don't dislike her style. but she def wears something daring and different from the others and sometimes her bold choice doesn't please to the masses. however i agree that just because she wears differently that doesn't mean she has bad style. like ChloeFrancoise said, one's style can not please to everyone. (2) actually she did. (see here) (3) plz don't say that early. we'll never know if she will wear his shoes in the future.

I wasn't saying it's wrong. What I basically mean is that if someone loving or hating someone's style eliminates them as someone who could be considered a style icon, then even people who are basically considered well dressed by a significant amount of the population wouldn't count either because there's always at least some people who don't like or care for something. And of course the general masses consider someone who actually has their own personal style that isn't generic and easy to like as someone who dresses crazy. That's why the red carpet is so dull. I don't actually care if everyone likes her style.

spot on.

chloe's style has always been ambivalent when it comes to opinions, but i think it's really healthy to have good critique every now and then and not see every outfit she wears through pink glasses. she puts her outfits sometimes to extreme (socks and sandals for example) and it's really nice to hear all kinds of opinions here when she does that. it's what tfs is for, isn't it? :flower:

^thank you, you are absolutely correct:flower:

tFS is not a fanforum, we are here to post our opinion on different things, weather it's positive or negative. And different opinions is really what keeps discussions going:p

please remember to stay respectful while posting, especially to other members even when they're not sharing your opinion.

Your point was that she wasn't an iconic dresser, and what I thought was offensive was that you said that only Chloe fans would think she can pull off any outfit. It's a matter of personal taste. :flower: I was just posing some examples because I don't think that by coming in here to say that Chloe fans are the only people to praise her style whilst others wouldn't agree is wrong. What Francoise said however is definitely right! I do believe that Chloe is an iconic dresser for her different choices.

I'm aware that she wore leggings on one occasion hahah, but you don't see her wearing them constantly. You know what I mean?

talking about style, I think if she didn't have she wouldn't be Elle's 'style adviser' if she didn't have style ;)

anyways here's a good and one of my favourite shot of her time at Elle

^ What happened to her Elle column? They made such a fuss when introducing it, and then it just disappeared.

I like the leopard top in the last pics, not sure how I feel about the outfit as a whole, I def dont hate it butdont love it either, but I always love new Chloe pics:D

That Chloe outfit ^ is nice, though maybe some jewelry would make it stand out.

Does anyone have larger versions of these images? They're from epicly later'd i believe. She was in Miami and it's at least 3 years old. I can't get over how awesome the outfit is.
