Lazaro Hernandez, Chloe Sevigny and Jack McCollough at a cocktail party for Proenza Schouler hosted by Bergdorf Goodman and Chloe Sevigny in New York
It was a big night for parties in New York Wednesday night, with fashion fetes happening up and down 5th Avenue, from the Versace and Vogue celebration of Gianni and Donatella Versace’s recent “Rodeo Drive Walk of Style” award at their flagship on 51st Street to Iman’s party for Rachel Roy at Saks Fifth Avenue.
But the best party brought a little dose of downtown to the normally prim and proper environs of Bergdorf Goodman, where actress Chloe Sevigny hosted a cocktail party for Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler.
Proenza Schouler are flying high these days, showing well-received Fall 2007 collection in New York last month and also having just been nominated for the CFDA’s Womenswear of Designer of the Year award. The duo won the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award in 2005.
Jack McCollough simply beamed when asked about how they felt about all the attention.
“We’re happy we’re here, and it’s cool that people are excited,” he said. “We’re psyched!”
As they should be, with fans like fashion plate Chloe Sevigny singing their praises.
“I think they bring something really interesting to the New York scene,” said Sevigny, who said she bought a few t-shirts and some jeans from their recent collection for Target, which she said “were cut very well.”
“They’re very hip, very wearable and very modern,” she continued.
The crowd, full of pretty young things and plenty of prosecco, was kept entertained by designer Ben Cho’s deejaying, who spun one of the best sets we’ve heard at a fashion party in a very long time. Note to party planners: you can’t go wrong with a DJ who will play everything from the Stone Roses to a hip hop mash-up of The Smiths. And like the Proenza Schouler boys, he’s a great designer, to boot.
