Chonga Style - Chola Style

Can't resist .... Modern Cholas from Riverside, Calif. The skinny eyebrows are gone but the high hair and the hoop earrings are still there:

Everyone knows real cholas back in the day wore NIKE CORTEZ.

This was so the norm back in jr high. Typically, you'd see

black or tan dickies (never fitted but fitted atthe waist with a canvas belt)
a wife beater thank top
black bra straps
an over sized zip up hoodie but never zipped up because how else would you show off the wife beater tank?
nike cortez
fake drawn on beauty marks, eyebrows,
not all of them have super slick hair, sometimes it's just messy
bandanas - lots of them
black lip liner, thick mascara, sometimes acryllic nails or red painted nails
they wear cross necklaces, gold rings, and the hoop earrings
they carry folders that are usually white with 3 binders and have pictures of themselves, friends, boyfriends, etc slipped into the front album pocket. These are the notorious glamour shots that they take at cheap photo studios.

donnie darko: google is a search engine, you need to credit your pictures properly otherwise they will be removed, it's TFS policy. :flower:

hahaha I totally remember that. And the white binders!!

The ones at my school liked to wear their jansport backpacks ridiculously high and they'd have like, almost nothing inside them. There was also a time when those really wide shoelaces were 'in'.
The cholas were both hilarious and terrifying at the same time (I grew up in the Valley in LA). They liked to congregate in the girl's bathroom and jumped people all the time. They'd cause such a huge scene. And they also really liked the word "supposably." Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Anyway, this is an interesting thread. Brings back lots of sweet memories.

-_- it's not a choice, lena. you can't really dress or act differently in most of those neighbourhoods without getting bullied.

thats not different from.. everywhere in the world..

so many kids feel 'forced' to follow the look of their buddies, its a global issue, happens all the time..

interesting, I have only seen that look on JLo.
but after getting through this thread, I still don´t understand what is the difference between chola and chonga?

i saw that video on youtube. it's pretty funny even though there aren't a lot of chongas where i live.

Chonga is mostly the "wannabe" chola. Cholas are the real gang deal, mostly up in L.A. Chongas are mostly in Miami and its more about a fashion thing, ( see Bratz ) than a "respect" "gang" thing.

I think many of these girls/women have children way too early, too. At least, that's what I see in my neighborhood. :(
