Christian Bale goes ballistic on the set of Terminator: Salvation!

 i don't get the disappointment. he never claimed to be an angel. and everyone should know by now that he's got a temper.

^Yeah, after this it should be even better, I suppose

This is something a friend of mine wrote about the tape, which I agree with from my own theater background:

Your friend is mostly right. There is an unwritten rule on movie sets: you DO NOT cross the line of sight of the main actors in a scene when the camera is rolling. It's highly distracting for the actor and can lead to money wasted when the shot is ruined.

The DP on Terminator, Shane Hurlbut, clearly didn't realise this. He decided to walk over during a take and start fiddling with his lights and he did it not once, but twice. It was the second time he did it that caused Bale to flip.

Now I'm not excusing Bale's rant. But be assured, these sorts of argument happens on film sets all the time. They just don't tend to go on for as long as this one did. I'd like to think Bale apologised when they were all done. Maybe he didn't and he's just a pain to work with but I don't think he's due 100% of the blame.

He's clearly a Method guy (anyone see The Machinist) and it's apparent because he tries not to drop his accent when the camera's not rolling. The claim was that this was the most emotionally intense scene in the film. If he was all geared up for that and in character then I guess it explains why he ranted for four solid minutes. The director doesn't seem to have too much control over him but I guess it's like a child having a tantrum - let him scream it out and then get back to what they were doing.

he's a really intense actor. while promoting batman, he talks in an american accent to keep the bruce wayne vibe going..

Christian is one of my favorite actors, but there have been many reports/rumors that he has a temper on set. This isn't the first film/time he has flipped out on someone. This is just the first time someone has proof. So it's not just a "well, it was a long day" sort of thing because this (reportedly) is not an isolated incident.

Yeah, he takes his craft seriously, but that doesn't give him the right to just go off on someone without repercussions. And in the time it took for him to rant, they probably could have reshot the scene.

Terrible behaviour. So what if that guy made a mistake? If one of your coworkers made a mistake would you be entitled to go crazy at them? He is clearly an egomaniac and a bully. :yuk: Threatening not to turn up to work unless that poor guy was fired. Absolutely vile.

I wonder how people can defend him? Swallowtail your friend writes exactly how Bale rants.

from justjared:
it's all i and some of us here have been saying and i'm glad he said something!

Christian Bale has called into the KROQ Kevin & Bean show in Los Angeles to apologize for his screaming and shouting mishap while filming Terminator Salvation.
The 35-year-old actor admits, “It’s been a miserable week for me. I know I have a pottymouth, everybody knows that now. I have no confusion whatsoever. I was out of order beyond belief, I was way out of order. I acted like a punk, I regret that and there is nodbody that has heard that tape that has been hit harder by it [than me]. I make no excuses for it, it is inexcusable and I hope that is absolutely clear.”
Christian continues, “One thing that has really disturbed me throughout this is I’m not familiar or comfortable with this notion of being a movie star. I’m an actor and I’m don’t quite know how to handle [the movie star thing]. The thing that disturbs me so much is that I’ve heard a lot of people saying that I seem to think I’m better than anybody else. Nothing could be farther from the truth. I’m a lucky SOB. I never forget that and that is why I put so much into what I do and I care so much about it . Sometimes that enthusiasm just goes awry.”
Mr. Bale ended, “I am embarrassed by it and I regret it. And I ask everybody to sit down and ask themselves, ‘Have they ever had a bad day and have they ever lost their temper and really regretted it immensely?’”

and there is him on croq fm radio , his phonecall to radio and his apology, and he was great and everything...and of course, some are now gonna say, oh he's just doing that so that people go see the terminator...
i personally belive him, he sounded so autenthic and honest, and loved hiim always and somehow i can't belive i would be that wrong judging someone's charatcer, cause i'm usually not
anyway, the story can finally be over now...

i don't get you people who think that "oh, we all have to be nice and polite". what is that? kindergarten? when grown up people screw up, they clearly deserve to be told that they screwed up. people who claim that they find this behaviour disgusting and would never do such a thing are clearly lying. i know i would flip out on people. it's absolutely human.

Without dragging my own rhetoric (or experiences) into this, Christian Bale has single-handedly become my hero!:P

thank you joshsimona for posting that :flower: i completely believe that was just a bad day for him and it's good he did apologize for it publicly.

I think his apology was really genuine. I know I've had bad days where I've overreracted and got pissed over something I shouldn't have. Actors are human too!

LOL, I can't even imagine how thankful Bale must be to Chris Brown right now.

Well, his publicist has been working on getting him some good PR. Bale usually gives the evil eye to paparazzi but photos just surfaced of him doing chores in his yard and hugging/greeting his daughter when she came home, promoting the "family man" image. He usually hates it when they photograph his child.
